Sorry I missed that PM...Need to check my settings I must have notifications turned down... :/

Gorgeous car...love the color combo!

Thanks for all the comments!

Funny thing, I was looking for a narrow body car when I came across this one and couldn’t get it out of my mind. Finally gave in and made it ours...hence “Smitten”

Used up some scraps in the shop to make a 917 inspired shift knob. I kinda like it...
(New shift boot on order...thanks pelican)

Nice work on the shift knob! Any construction pics?

I always get excited to see fellow Hoosiers on Pelican. Whereabouts are you? I'm 20 minutes north of Indy...originally from 2 minutes south of Lake Michigan.
Beautiful car.

Here's a shot of the process I took. (Metal insert will be black before I install it)
I think the ones you can buy thru the store here on Pelican are a bit nicer, but I wanted to make my own...

Beautiful car.

I only know a few other air cooled Hoosiers, so great to hear from you! I'm about 45 minutes south if Indy. I do get out with CIRPCA occasionally...

WHAT!!
Concerned about air, synchros, and a female name!!!!! Just drive it and enjoy......time for perfection later.......and why name it?

Doing a little cleanup while waiting for the salt and snow to subside. Hoping to take this thing to Luft this spring...

Painful moment, but finally pulled the trigger on a package from Griffith. Looking forward to having a working AC again...

Strangely, I installed heat in the garage last season so I could work on cars in the winter.

Finally getting started on the Griffiths AC install...

Can’t decide if the person that designed this diabolical thing was insanely clever, or just crazy.

Really impressed with the kit so far. The parts look really good, and the directions are very comprehensive.

My install will go pretty slowly, Lots of little cleanup projects along the way...

Can you film videos of the DIY steps involved ?
There is virtually zero video DIY documentation of these cars.
It's like this forum is stuck in 2005 or something.
It's truly a shame.

I'd love to, but there are two impediments. A, I am not very telegenic, and my Kansas drawl makes me sound fairly thick. And B, I am so slow at this stuff, I'd never be able to edit the hours of stumbling around into a cohesive clip...lol

LOL you just described myself. Another reason I don't film things.... Im just to dang slow.

I installed the full AC upgrade kit a couple years ago. RawkneesTurbo was a huge help.
There are a few things you can do to improve the AC system even more.

When you are installing the fan get some strip calk at Home Depot or Lowes and seal the gaps in the plate and fan.

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1584715409.jpg

Insulate the inside of the smugglers box. Again HD or Lowes. I got some self adhesive foam with radiant barrier to line the inside with. I didn't do the bottom of the box for fear of moisture setting in the foam and rusting the pan.

Add a fan to the rear condenser. You can use the power wire for the compressor to trigger a relay that turns it on when the compressor is running. A must have for when you get caught in traffic.

Keep posting or PM me if you have any questions.

You can do it. Just film at critical points so there is a trail for the next guy who is contemplating the same project. Really sad that video editing is a skill totally absent with the older guys. How about photos at least?

You don't leave the camera running the entire time. You stop and film each step, as if you're taking a photo.

Quasimoto 03-24-2020 12:51 PM

About halfway through the install, and I continue to be impressed with the quality of the stuff from Griffiths. Really love the variable speed fan control. And the underdash vent that replaces the “bowtie” really looks like it was part of the car to begin with...

We drive this car a lot, so the hose work is just grungy drudge work...heh.
