Hey Juan,
Good see ya posting. Question - how are you going to instal the sub harness on the DAD seats. They don't have a sub harness cutout do they? Mark

Some rule books will not allow a single attachment point for the shoulder harness portion of the 5 point system. You need five points of attachnent. This is what I use: http://www.crowenterprizes.com/Crow%20Enterprizes/html/index.html
Everyone has thier preferences. |

I have the RJS cam lock on the drivers side and the RJS latch and link on the passenger side - so far so good.

Harnesses
The two holes, I believe, are for harnesses. Or this is the natural opening for the shoulder portion of harnesses.
In my case, I have no experience with harnesses. Are the DADs compatible? Jack, I like those. If they'll work with the DADs, I might consider them. I've been looking at Simpsons, too. I haven't called DAD to see what they recommend. Maybe any harness will work with the DADs. One strange question: I read somewhere (maybe on this board) that five-point harnesses are actually illegal for street driving. That's hard for me to believe as they have to be safer than regular three points, but who knows? Is this true? Are they "illegal" for street use?

Juan,
Sorry - I'm talking about the sub harness between your legs. I thought that this belt goes through the seat to the floor anchor point. Does the DAD seats have a sub harness cutout down between your legs?

I use the Sabelt harnesses. ompusa.com sells them along with all the mounting hardware you will need to mount the sub strap. Remember, don't mount your belts directly to the seat rail or seat. This is very unsafe. The lap belts should be mounted to the floor of the car with a 3"+ washer behind and locktite on the nut. Best of luck getting these installed!!
Cheers, James

I have seen pictures of sub belts mounted behind the seat, going between the back of the seat and the top of the bottom. The driver sits on the lap belt essentially. This is done if one has no sub hole cut in the seat. Is this recommended as I have factory seats that I don't want to cut up?

My NARP 944 has only 5-point harnesses, and I drive that car on the street quite frequently. I've never had a problem with any law enforcement.

There is a sit-on harness thing for a six-point harness -- I think it's used in drag racing. I wouldn't recommend it for track use. Since my previous seat didn't have a hole, I had an upholstery guy cut a slit and stitch it up. If you do this, though, make sure you look up the ideal angle for the belt. (I think it's supposed to be within 20 degrees of straight down, but don't quote me on that.) Finally, running only a racing harness makes street driving a royal pain in the neck. I kept my three-point belts for street use.

Here are some pics of my daily driver.
My 993 interior in progress I'm using Sparco 5-pt cam locks (same as Sabelt). The quality is great but I would have to say that Schroth definitely makes the nicest belts I've seen. There are just alot of finishing touches on them that make them look so much more complete.

Juan,
Since no one mentioned this yet, I will. I looked on your website and couldn't see whether you have a roll bar installed. Without one, being belted in a 5 or 6 point harness is not considered safe unless there's a roll bar to keep the roof off of your head(s) in case of a roll-over. The standard 3-point seat belt/harness is designed so occupants can double over and hopefully avoid a collapsing roof. A harness offers no such option. I would budget in a roll bar along with your multi-point harness setup. Besides RJS, Schroth and Sparco previously mentioned, Simpson, Diest, Sabelt and TRW are some other brands that come to mind. Autopower, DAS and custom-made are some roll bar options. BTW, very nice car. I think I've said that on other occasions too. Sherwood Lee http://members.rennlist.org/911pcars |

I use an OMP 5-point in my Spec Miata, and there is a definite difference from brand to brand in the stiffness of the nylon webbing. The OMP belts are stiffer and tougher to adjust in the buckles (but I feel a bit safer for it). You may want to check them out in person if possible.

If you visit Rennlist.com, there have been numberous discussions on the BBS about harnesses, roll bars etc.
