Hi Al
I really need your help ...so please PM when you are free. Thanks |
progress
I expect that the 3.5 will be completed this week and on the test stand shortly.....also, nice contrast between an original, stock 2.2 w/Zeniths and the 3.5 with PMO/EFI/ITBs....very different, but I like the way that the EFI still captures the old school independent throttle body vibe ....but combines it with new-school engine management......different strokes, both cool.

Exciting build! Looking good!!

Great work Al. [emoji106] Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

Should put down some decent power....but this one won't likely hit the dyno prior to delivery to my customer Raz....who is located in Kuwait........ |
Great work as always Al. Does the 3.5 build use separate air cleaners or does a plenum go between the two sets of stacks? Is there a benefit to either method of drawing air into the horns?
|
Shaun,
although I have been reading up a bit on using common plenums with ITBs, with the reported benefits being improved power in the mid-range/high RPM...eliminating any flat spots.......but I have not tried this approach yet so I cannot provide any firsthand experience or back-to-back comparisons.....but the ITBs themselves, with individual filters or rainhats (PMO) are such an improvement over the factory CIS or 3.2/3.6 MAF throttle bodies with common plenum...I have been very happy with the results and the beauty of modern engine management is that you can really tune out the flat spots. I've seen some of the stuff that Rothsport is doing with variable plenums etc and it is impressive and brings more power.... I am always open to new ideas and more power.....up to a certain point where I start to think that it is too complex or doesn't meet my price/performance criteria for street driven canyon carvers (which varies daily) I do like the direct path and equal air intake that you can achieve with ITBs. Seems to work very well. regards, al |

Thanks Al, interesting stuff for sure.

Nice progress Al! Nice to have a client with an open mind. ;)
Wow, I didn't know that Rich spoke French. Do tell us more about the cafe racer... |

I have installed many...many EFI systems and I have never been to a dyno. I do all of my testing and tuning on the road, in real driving conditions.....drive, datalog, review ,revise, drive, datalog,review,revise...rinse & repeat until awesome. Quite a few of my customers have had additional dyno tuning done and I've seen excellent results...I've also had others come to me after dyno tuning to refine the tune....etc. i.E. I think that they both work well, if the person reviewing the data and revising the tuning is experienced..that is likely the biggest variable to good tuning. |
almost there.....
I will be loading this monster onto the test stand tomorrow and firing up before the week is out (assuming my crank pulley shows up)..........stay tuned...

Looking Great Al!! Cant wait to see the video of it running.

pending garage fire........
One step closer to the danger zone.
I've been waiting for the correct crank pulley for the 3.5 motor and it was delivered today...finally. I have the engine mounted on my test stand, fuel is plumbed, fuel pressure is good. The AEM Infinity is all wired up and ready to go......very quickly communicated with my laptop. I need to install a fan belt and the MAP hoses....add oil and....let there be fire!!!! Here is the engine test queue....the engine in the background is a nice, rebuilt 2.2T motor.....I'm currently waiting for parts to complete the rebuild of the Zeniths, but in the meantime I have some of my RHD ITBs sitting on it....once tested, etc...it wll be for sale. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1557448009.jpg stay tuned al |
The 3.5 is alive.......
After some ignition synch debugging it fired right up. It is not tuned yet, just running on my start-up file....rings not seated, etc.....but it is running pretty good right from the 1st start........tomorrow I'll run it in and start the tuning.......Oh yes!

I think I got mechanically aroused. Thank you!

Looking good Al!
|
rev it up!!!
After running in the 3.5 engine and a little tuning it is running and revving nicely....the crappy mic on my camera does not do the sound justice.....it sounds awesome
