Engine trans reinstall problems?
This thing just dosn't want to align properly. Is there some kind of trick to get it to line up or am I doing something wrong. After I have all four mounts bolted there seems to still be alot of movement with the transmission. If I put my jack up under the trans mount I can jack it alittle bit and it will still move up about a half of an inch with not much resistance. Also my rear crossmember which has the bolt holes for the bolts that goes through the engine mounts has a big bannana in it. Should this crossmember be fairly straight or should I have to bend it alittle to get the bolts to line up?

Your rear crossmember should be straight. What year and model are we talking about here? Do you have the washers on your tranny mount bolts? Is your tranny mated properly to your engine? Has your car been hit in the rear? Need more info.

Engine and tranny mounts are part rubber, and there is movement. I jack the rear of my car by placing the jack under the engine. When I let it down, the engine moves a good half-inch relative to the car.
the rear cross member should be straight, but I have to muscle might a little to get the bolts to line up. Normal.

SC Engine Mounts
Superman,
When the 911 SC engine is mounted properly on the car, the only movement of the engine/trans would come from the rubber mounts and the flex of the engine cross member. The four engine/trans mounts are tightly secured to the car frame/chassis so the vertical movement of the engine/trans would be minimal. Just my $0.02 cents..... I could be wrong! |

It looks like I had the rear crossmember reversed so hopefully that will iron out the problem.
