Jaw dropping great! I love the Ruf style bumpers - and looks like a nice surprise under the hood...

Very, very nice, but we want hard data. like how did you set up the exhaust, did you stain your shorts the first time out, etc!

BTW, I was wondering why you weren't posting. Very nice to get it done on post 911!

Very Sharp, please provide some details on those bumpers, like where did you get them.

Well, today was a VERY mixed bag.

For those who don't know, I put a '97 993 motor in an '83 SC. LOTS to sort out.
The tachometer is crazy. At 4,500 RPM the needle dives to zero. There is nowhere near the power I expected. Not much different than my old 3.0. I know, something must be VERY wrong. The idle is relatively steady at around 700 RPM or so. The motor died twice on the freeway after coming to a stop after cruising at 70 MPH. The motor sounds great, but the throttle response is sluggish. There is definitely no "slam you back in your seat" pull.

I have no idea how many RPM I am pulling, cause the needle dives to zero after 4,500.

Any ideas brothers?

Rob,

The bumpers are from GT racing. I even installed the headlight washers.

I borrowed more than a few ideas from Bill Verberg. I put a bead between the bumpers and body and I will install similar license plate lights.

Al Reed did the wheels.

The motor runs badly, but cool with the Carrera cooler and the B&B cooler.

The exhaust is a stock 993 header with each bank having it's own very small pre-cat-glasspack-post cat arrangement. Nicely LOUD.

Jorge,
I'll definitely sort out the suspension after I drive it awhile. Got to get the powerplant working first. I'm baffled.

Jorge,

I'm in the Bay Area too. When I get this all sorted out, we'll get together for a drive.

Looks cool Moses, If i were a betting man i would say you are not getting the throttle to open all the way it seems to be a problem on these conversions, i dought its a air leak if it idles well, does it rev well? also check and make sure the belt in your distributor is not broken. Have you set the timmimg or checked it, todd says the patrick motor sports throttle is a cool deal, ill keep you posted if i ever get a chance to finish my 3.6 conversion, Kevin

Moses, something is very wrong if don't feel the new power. Are you getting full throttle? Put a brick on teh peddel and check back at the throttle body. I went with the Paterick Motor SPorts throttle cable and there is a world of difference.
Are any of the plug wires crossed? I did this with an old motor and it seemingly ran fine but had no power.
Idle should be higher than 700 rpms, somewhere around 850. Perhaps a vacuum leak somewhere. I had several locations that needed to be capped off that took a couple days to find.
How about the fuel pressure? The fuel pump is probably directly from teh DME and not through the relay with the 3.0 - perhaps a poor connection is not permitting enough fuel flow? The conenction should run from the DME harness under the seat.
What chip are you using? How light of flywheel did you go with?
The tach gets it connection at the DME wiring under the seat. The 964 signal is compatable with the SC tach. I don't know about the '97 993.
Perhaps the memory stored in the DME is messing with things, try disconnecting the battery for 5 minutes and then reconnect and take her for a drive.

Sorry no definate answer but maybe some of these suggestions will help.

BTW, how is you oil druck pressure? Mines shows double what it should.

Paul,

Thanks for the ideas.

Yeah, my druck pressure seems high.

I have the lightweight flywheel from Patrick Motorsports. The chip is from Timmins (Cyntex).

I will order the Patrick motorsports throttle cable tomorrow. The gas pedal feels very mushy. With the old 3.0 you could cruise along at 4,000 RPM and just tap the throttle and feel the surge. I'm not getting that now. Huge disappointment.

Kevin, the revs are extremely disappointing. Same or better throttle response in the 3.0 . I will check the timing. Thanks.

Something's definitely wrong.

It might be time for a shop to do some troubleshooting.

Moses just a quick thought, are the coils wired right? if only one coil was working you would be down on power, Kevin
