Mod07 vs. Prototipo

Looking for a new wheel narrowed it down to the Mod07 and Prototipo. Similar design, Mod07 has two holes on down spoke and more dish. Prototipo has three holes flatter dish. If I choose a Prototipo I will probably buy a vintage period correct wheel as opposed to new.

Using the same hub, I assume the Mod07 would bring the wheel closer to you, which may or may not be a good thing. Something to think about. But I like the Prototipo better just on looks alone, and a vintage one with patina would be best of all.

Having both of them the amount of dish in mod 7 is quite pronounced vs. the prototipo.

Dish is definitely a better driving position, though the yellow stripe has to go.

I went with the Mod 7, as I wanted a bit of dish to bring the wheel closer to me. I'm happy with that (as opposed to the flat stock steering wheel I had before), but it also makes the turn signal/wiper stalks (relatively) a little bit "farther away." Not a big deal, but I have to extend my fingers deliberately to actuate them, now. I'm OK with the yellow stripe. Jack Olsen painted his grey, I believe, to make it less visible.

Isnt there also the heritage Prototipo? I think the only difference is distressed leather . It is sold in a different portion of the Momo site

I bought a Mod 8 because I liked the look and mistakenly thought it had the same amount of dish (70mm) as the Mod 7.

Turns out it has 85mm of dish, which seems too much, but I haven’t been able to drive it yet.

I had both of them. In the end i went with the momo 07 although I do not like the yellow stripe. Gives me the best driving position. Look for an all leather version of it. The suede version will look greasy after a short time.

I wish MOMO make a Prototipo with some dish on it... I have a Prototipo in my car and it's too flat for me

Great info guys thanks.

Interesting posts seem to indicate Mod07 is the better choice. Poll has the Tipo leading.

If you autocross - the Mod 7 is farther away from the turn signal. This helps avoid the accidental activation of the turn signal.

The Prototipo (with a center Porsche crest horn button) is the period correct steering wheel.

I wish they made them in a 370mm size. The wheel is just too small. I went back to my Carrera wheel with factory extended hub.

Not meaning to derail this thread but I went with this factory wheel and love it! See my review on the page for the wheel.

Finally switched from the Prototipo to the Mod 07 and made a huge difference for me. Brought the wheel closer and made running errands this morning even more pleasurable.

Loved, loved the looks of the Prototipo, and feel aesthetically that it is the right one...but...I am driving this daily and/or across the country so I feel function is more important.

I am 6' tall long legs and feel much better over all.

I have both. Love the Mod. Larger, better and more original feeling size wise for my 75, and it just feels better in my car. I am tall too though.

They have a bespoke program and will make any combination of leathers and colors you choose.

I got everything black...looks very unassuming.
