removing stock shift knob question........

ok this may be a dumb question but how the heck do you get the stock shift knob off of the shift lever?
i just installed my new Weltmeister short shifter and all new bushings and don't want to detroy the stock knob trying to get it off.
looking at the new shifter there aren't any threads which tells me it doesn't screw on like most cars.
thanks in advance

mine is just a crush ring between the knob and the lever. It just pulls out.

On my SC, the knob comes off by brute force. Fint a open end wrench that is the same size as the shift lever, use this to tap the knob off.

Put the wrench against the knob, and smak the crap out of the bottom of the wrench with a hammer.

Warning: If the knob flies off and hits you in the forehead, you are required by law to post in this forum, so we can laugh at you.

15mm open end wrench placed under the knob and a good pounding on the wrench with a rubber mallet will do the trick.

You'll probably need a new crush ring to get the knob back on your new shifter...

If you do this gently, you may save the crush ring (I did), and if you get too rough, either removing or re-installing, you could split the knob.

ok i'll use the hammer/wrench method, the the stock shifter is already out of the car so i'll have to stick it in my vise which will lesson the chance of my getting hit in the head with it
i have however stabbed myself in the forehead with a hook tool numerous times in the past........so you can laugh at me for that

on a side note the new shifter/bushing make my 915 feel like a new tranny (although i haven't driven it yet, still on jackstands) the old bushings look to be original and were completely trashed
thanks guys, i'll post how it comes off.

I just took mine off today. My solution: screwdriver and Dremel cut-off wheel. Destroyed it, of course. I was short on patience this morning, and I hated that stock round knob anyway. Replaced in with a Momo Anatomico- what an awesome improvement!! Wish I had done it sooner.

i had a black leather w/red stitching knob so i stuck that on for now.......i'll probably end up putting the stock knob back on though.

So, did anything hit Bell's forehead? No answer on that one.
