Is your WUR working correctly?

I just watched this video. Kind of long, but interesting. Has links for rebuild kits, exchange also.

not really possible without major changes, like converting to EFI or something

Sylvester,

You could manually manipulate your cold control fuel pressure to behave like a WCP. But the big question is the engine ready for it? It takes too long and idle too high are both adjectives. Gives as a specific time in seconds or minutes.

fix the problem. don't put a band aide on it.
get some fuel pressure gauges and see what is going on with your pressures first.
check for power to the WUR
plug the small vacuum line going to the decal valve and see if that helps.
too lean when cold due to:
air leaks
mixture setting
bad WUR- cold control pressure

fix the problem

Explain this in more detail. Does the engine actually take too long to warm up or is the high idle taking too long to lower back to idle?
The actual warming of the engine itself is temperature dependent. If the WUR does not control the fuel pressure to match the fuel need as the engine warms the AFR will be either overly lean or overly rich until both are warm. The components that raise the idle during this process are controlled by temperature, time and/or vacuum. If one of these components is hanging up the idle will remain high or be overly high for too long.

A high idle that take too long to come down is controlled by the idle air bypass located on the #5 intake. It is adjustable by removing it and tapping the aluminum pin in until you get the idle you want.

I would not touch the warm up reg. It has nothing to do with the idle speed.
