Steering column help
Hi Guys,
I'm taking apart the column, and am having trouble getting these pan head bolts off. I can't get a regular socket on them. Anybody have any tips? Thanks, Rob ![]()

Those are shear head bolts. the intent it for the head to shear off when the bolt reaches desired torque and then leave a smooth round head so that they can't be removed to prevent theft. You have a couple options, a chisel and punch will usually knock them loose, just place the punch at the edge of the remaining head and tap with a hammer in the loosening direction. Another option is to slot the head with a Dremel or hacksaw blade and use a large flat blade screw driver to remove them.
