Steering column help

Hi Guys,

I'm taking apart the column, and am having trouble getting these pan head bolts off. I can't get a regular socket on them. Anybody have any tips?

Thanks,
Rob

Those are shear head bolts. the intent it for the head to shear off when the bolt reaches desired torque and then leave a smooth round head so that they can't be removed to prevent theft. You have a couple options, a chisel and punch will usually knock them loose, just place the punch at the edge of the remaining head and tap with a hammer in the loosening direction. Another option is to slot the head with a Dremel or hacksaw blade and use a large flat blade screw driver to remove them.
