Many 986/996 plus people use it, but that would be the cable version. 986/996+ are all cable shifters (except for early 996 cup).
Looks like it maintains the rod connection? If so, could be fun. If it is a cable conversion, you might lose a lot of feel. Reverse is clearly a cable but that's reverse. Will likely take a bit of fiddling to get the reverse cable adjusted right. Last edited by FrenchToast; 04-26-2019 at 07:41 PM.. |

I might have to pick one of these up. The cable is just a lockout for reverse..you pull on the silver ring below the shift knob to release the lock. I had one of these on my e46 m3 years ago and it was fantastic.

It looks like it maintains the rod shift. The cable is for reverse lock-out. Pulling lever up opens gate to get shifter into reverse.
YouTube clips (albeit) on other cars eg 993/964 shows a super short throw. |

Coming into this a bit late. I had to do some fabrication, but the version for the 915 transformed the system. I've used the Wevo, the Rennshift, and the Hargett. Nothing compares to the feel and response of the CAE. We're building a motorsports G50 and will only be using the CAE.

yep. I read G50 (only) as well.
And looking at the picture and from what I grasp technically, it is not for 915.

Still wishing someone could revive the ‘Secret Shifter’ so the original look could be maintained with the springloaded gates.

Sorry Guys. I'll get a photo of the 915 unit and post it when I get a moment. It was developed by CAE last year for installing 915's in VW's in Europe. We sourced it though Jake at Hard Motorsports and the 3 month wait was worth it. We are upgrading to the G50 over the winter and will be selling this particular unit, including the couple pieces we fabricated. The new power unit will be using a new CAE as well.

I received and installed my CAE Ultra Shifter last week.
•Need to mount directly to sheet metal NO CARPET •Need to remove or modify Center Console •Need to elongate bolt hole on front bushing carrier •Need to loosen rear clamp to slide shift rod forward •Need to reset trans coupler to shift rod as with any new shifter [shifter in neutral, 90° at shifter, to the left, trans shaft/coupler clockwise while shift rod held left at shifter] •Need to dial in centering spring while in 3rd or 4th, maintaining equal lateral moving in gear •Need to adjust 1/2 stopper and 5/R stopper till smooth gear engagement •Need to set up/adjust reverse lock out •Need to grease and or oil shifter in prescribed locations ●ABSOLUTELY NEED TO ENJOY your new found 915 experience!! This shifter is super light weight, like crazy light compared to the popular choices. Install was very easy and English instructions are downloaded from CAE site. While I haven't logged enough time these last few days, I am certain this has transformed my car. Super smooth and very precise!! YOU NEED TO DIAL IT IN!! Took just a couple runs "around the block" to get it set up for my application. I'm enjoying the action, short shifting is more effective and much more enjoyable now! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
