Deep cycle Optima

I have a deep cycle Optima
65 Amp hours
900 marine cranking amps
W/ an AJ USA adapter plate

bought it last year for the 911, but ended up changing out the alternator
didn't realize it was deep cycle marine till recently

Will that be an OK batt for an 88, 911?

Thanks

Probably not for the long term.. it should gradually get weaker and weaker.. you can then recharge them with big current/not trickle.. it kinda loses its max voltage over a short time.. maybe 6-12 months.. maybe Optima has a site for more info

Yeah, not really the optimum battery for this application. The way the plates are set up the deep cycle battery is used better to be really discharged before being recharged, the typical car battery is better suited to providing higher amperage over a short period and then being recharged. The plates in your deep cycle battery will probably shed rather quickly and you'll loose the high-amperage output you need to start.

yes, red tops are good for cars. blue is good for boats.

other than that I think they just make side post terminals or top mount.

I'm often wrong about lots of things though. if you go back to where you bought your marine optima, it should become apparent. they are pretty cheap at costco. that's where I got my red top!

I run a similar Optima in my BMW (which only gets driven a few times a month). It's been installed for over two years with absolutely no problems. As far as I can tell, it's relatively bulletproof.

Cheers, Chris

Search the archives, lots of Optima info. The one Jack has I think is a Stinger, small and powerful. Got mine at www.sounddomain.com (yes it was targeted for the monster boom stereo guys).
