Low Beam High Beam issue

Hi,

Have an 1980 Targa that I got back from the paint shop...Besides the paint job needing to be redone (separate saga which I am chasing), I have now found my low beam does not work. However I get high beam only when I pull the steering wheel stalk towards me. Parking lights are functioning ok.

Not sure why I get high beam when I pull the stalk towards me..

Would appreciate some guidance

thanks in advance

geoff

You need a new turn signal stalk switch, pull the wheel and then install. There are a few threads on it.

Similar issue on my 74 911. High beams wouldn't work. Had to buy a new stalk. These are pretty common issues apparently.

Also install a headlight relay to take the load off the stalk. $25 from our host and a 5 minute install. I had the exact same issue, installed a new stalk and was good to go. Now I just need to replace the H5’s with H4’s.

Absolutely for the relays!!!!

If needed, have pics for the installation on our 86 Targa.

Best,

Gerry

just so thread can be closed.

No idea why it working as swapped out stalk switch and light switch.

Could it have been as simple as not having ignition turned on when doing the lights...
I don't know but it is the only thing I can think of.... idiot me and not the first time I have done something dopey..

Good news is lights are now working.
thankyou to all those who took the time to reply to my thread.
