Where to source a M7 (7mm) hex nut for a caliper Ribe bolt?
Turning to Pelican in case someone can help me out.
I had calipers restored but unfortunately had one of the 8 Metric 7mm hex nuts for the rear caliper M7 ribe bolt (look like class 12 per the marking on the nut of 12) not returned to me after the calipers were split and re-plated. I've been scouring the internet looking for an acceptable replacement as well as local hardware stores and while I've found (only one) M7 nut (looks like 1.00 thread pitch) that fits it's about 30% shorter in height and only class 8. Any idea where I can find this so get this project done so I can put the car down from jack stands where it's unfortunately been since March? Ideally one that's black so it matches and doesn't stick out like a sore thumb. Thanks so much |

M7-1.0 thread pitch is very rare in fact it may be a one off for these calipers only. Call Eric & PMB to see if he has any spares. He is always buying core calipers.

I just purchased some metric bolts from Belmetric They had oddball metric size and length in good quality zinc plated bolts.

I tried to get Ribe nuts and bolts for my calipers and wasn't very successful.
I like Belmetric very much but even they told me that Ribe fasteners were very difficult to source. I believe they were actually seeking a supplier when I called, so certainly check with them. Eric may sacrifice a nut or two, but he wasn't selling ribe fasteners when I called. If I hadn't been able to use my old fasteners, I think my only recourse would have been to try and buy some old calipers. Good Luck!

BelMetric was super helpful on the phone and even gave me torque specs for their class 8.8 nuts and confirmed these were lower than the required torque specs. Incredible customer service, though he did confirm these are special nuts and he didn't have anything that could be used. I appreciate all of your input and time to reply. Thank you |

ARP has nuts. M7 x 1.0 12 point chromoly. They also have M9. No bolts however.
My plater lost a Ribe Caliper bolt and a few each of the M9 and M7 nuts. Haven't tried the ARP ones but you know they'll be strong.

How much meat is there in the calipers, could you drill them out to 8mm and 10mm?
M7 is a really good size, it's quite a large gap between M6 and M8...

BrakeL8. I have a couple front M caliper cores. I’m pretty sure it’s the same nut. I can send you a couple so you can complete your project and when you eventually find some, send me a couple back. PM me if that works. Mark

You guys are all great. I believe from a conversation yesterday that I have found one but will let you know and mepstein appreciate your offer immensely and will let you know if things fall through.
Hadn’t even thought of ARP either. I’ve long been fascinated by machine shops- creating one from scratch also hadn’t occurred. Need to befriend a local machine shop for these solutions in the future! Thanks all |

Early Honda motorcycles used that thread for the chain adjuster bolts as a jam nut, try a Honda shop if you have one close

I'm going to try (some day when I'm bored?) 5//16" rear and 3/8" front. Should only require the removal of a small amount of material. That opens many options for high strength bolts, including stainless ARP.

This is comapred to ~10.8mm on the stock nut BUT there is plenty of room on the flat circular surface of a rear M caliper (off a 1987 Carrera 3.2) to have this fit. 2) Spoke to ARP re: the torque spec of 17 ft lbs and as you might imagine their response was "buy the stainless steel version so it will not rust - the black cro-mo version will" BUT that "the nut will be fine- it's entirely dependent on the strength of your bolt. https://arp-bolts.com/kits/arpkit-detail-b.php?RecordID=2134 I'm still hopeful after months of waiting (edit: clarity here - project has taken months and I'm looking to finish) that the replacement that I'm promised from the party that did the work will arrive so that I don't have to put a ARP on (though if I could actually get the ARP in decent time I'd consider- need to call some local ARP dealers tomorrow). Had I not already built the other caliper I'd strongly consider just using 8 ARP bolts (or 16) so at least there isn't a glaringly obviously "one-off" as the aesthetics bother me, but I digress. Sucks to not get your parts back BUT great call Jonny042 on the ARP solution. They were literally the ONLY solution I've found in a week of looking over many hours.
