What’s the best 15” tire choice??????

Got my hands on a set of 15x6 Fuchs and thinking about putting on my 1980 SC. Having a hard time finding tires. Who still makes a 15” performance tire and what size should I go with?
Thanks

I like my Toyo R888R's but they can be a bit on the noisier side if you're not running an exhaust already. I hear great things about the Pirelli Trofeo R's as well.

Trofeo looks to be a track tire and not in 15”. Not tracking the car but looking for a good all around street performance tire.

How noisy are the 888s?

FWIW, over the years on my SC I ran on 6" front and 7" rear cookies:

1) 205/60-15 F and 215/60-15 R
2) 205/50-15 F and 225/50-15 R

Are you running 6x15 on all 4 corners or just the fronts? Are you looking to run a different rear size? cause finding matched 15" sets in staggered sizes is a little harder.

R888's are noisy. But, they are a nice dry weather / track tire. I prefer RA-1s to R888s

you get a TON more choices if you swap to 16x6 and 16x7 fuchs (FWIW)

The 6s look bad enough on the front and will be a really poor look in back

Agree. The stock flares need width in the rear..

My 911 came with 15s, and I loved them when tires were available. The good tires are gone, except a few crazy expensive tires, with very average performance.

I finally gave up, and bought some 17 inch Euromeisters. Now I hear those are hard to get and expensive. I love the selection of tires, and the grip level is just another order of magnitude and I can drive it in the rain and not take my life in my hands, and still have lots of traction.

Thanks for the responses. I have staggered fake Fuchs 16s on the car now, but was basically given the 15” Fuchs and wanted the real deal on the car. They would look small. Maybe I’ll just keep the fakes as the width looks better.

I have a 87 Targa with 15" Fuchs that came with car. There is very little out there for 15" tires that aren't closer to track tires. I ended up with Kuhmo for now just to get something on them and went with 225/50/15 on all four corners. I have been aiming for a beefier look and so put 7mm spacer on rear as well and lowered front end 1". Have not rolled fenders yet but would need to if I do anything bigger. The Pirelli's are nice, but were $250+ more per tire so didn't want to mess with that for now as I have many other items on the car I need to deal with. I too have considered 16" Euromeister or something else just to have on car so I can get more tire choices, and then save the 15" Fuchs, but will say they are fine the way the car is now. The Kuhmo's look good, do make some road noise I think and I live in Texas, so seem fine so far in heat (never gets that cold here but I haven't owned car cold months yet).

Hate to be that guy, but there are tons of threads on the availability of 15" tires that contain a wealth of info, there's also a picture thread for impact bumper cars with 15" wheels if you want to get an idea how the smaller wheels look. I have 15's on my car (7 front, 8 rear) with Toyo R888 tires. I agree with the others that a 6" wheel will look strange, unless you use spacers in the rear to fill out the wheel wells.

Maxilite 16’s seem like a no-brainer here. Reasonably priced, available in common 16” sizes now in a variety of finishes. Enough 16” tire choices for most street applications. Well made, forged, TUV approved and lightweight.

I have friends that chose some Cooper Tires and are very happy with their road manners, but don’t track their cars. Another acquaintance went with some Firestone (Firehawks?) for his flared 914-6 conversion. Really depends how you’re using the car. How many are still actively tracking their cars?

I just went through this and although there are many threads on the subject tires in this size are hard to find. Weather they are discontinued or out of stock. This size has an ok selection for track focused cars but lacks for DD. I ended up with Toyo Proxes in 205/45/15 for my 7s and 225/45/15 for the 8s

Maxlights have a good 7" front and good 8 or 9 for SC/Carrera rear fitment in 15. There are some real advantages to going w/ 15 vs 16

I run 195/65R15 up front on 7x15” and 215/60R15 at the back with 8x15”. Have original Fuchs in these sizes as well, but currently running aftermarket wheels.

Hey Bill they are the R1R. My bad the 205 are 50 series. They both have a wheel diameter of 23”. Not trying to hijack the op thread but can you describe what happens when you change the tires ratio(O.D.) as I’m currently running 215/60/15 which are 24 1/2” od and am wondering what difference it’s going to make.

Here's why the 7&8x15 w/ low profile tires is such a sweet setup, The 7 & 8 w/ short tires gains ~36lb-ft vs the tall 215s

and why 15 is better than 16
the 15 is ~38lb-ft better

falken ziex ze950 or sumitomo htr p02. I have the Falkens. Sumitomo make Falken and I'm pretty sure they are the same tire. I decided on these based on old threads here.
