I chose to purchase my cams from him because he is well respected in our community and has been in business quite a while. I've been working through a purchase with him and his communication has been very good and he has been quite helpful.

I'm sure there is some sort of misunderstanding, or a delay with overseas shipping, or that he is simply very busy. My advice would be to keep trying him.

All my correspondence with him has been through john@drcamshafts.com

Same here. I had John make my cams too back in September. Actually ordered the cams in late July and got them early September but he never charged my credit card until they were done. He does nice work and is therefore kept busy. Well worth the 6 weeks or so wait.

a'yup - common question - more than a few threads on this - he seems to go silent periodically

i got a set from him several yrs ago - only after i finally drove over to his shop (which on several visit attempts was closed) (only ~20 miles from me)

IMHO - if he spends time answering emails, he doesn't get the shop work done - so he just ignores 'em

John did my cams years ago just before he moved. It was during the rebuild and asked if he could get them back in two weeks which he did. Very happy with the cams and the resulting performance.

We have bought several sets over the years and currently have a few sets down with him right now. Always pleased with the products.

Cheers

I have a load of pasts including 5 sets of cams that I paid for last year that John has been promising to dispatch since before Christmas. I've bought various cams off John going back >10 years and he has always been great.
I last spoke to him back on the 16th/17th when he said he would have everything dispatched that following wknd and would send me tracking details.
I have called him nearly every day since 20th Jan but got no response to phone or emails.
I hope he is OK ? and not fallen ill or something ?
I note that sometimes his answering machine is full and other times it is not.
I am not asking for them on here, but if anyone does have his personal contact details it would be much appreciated if they could contact him to just check if he is OK. Or if anyone lives near him, then if they could pop by to check up on the worshop that would be very much appreciated.
I have to say that I am worried about him.
If anyone does have any news then do please post it.
Thankyou

Good news is John emailed me back today. He is OK, but has a massive backlog of work and hasn't been on top of his emails or phone messages for weeks.
He isn't answering emails or phone messages as he tries to get on top of things.
My stuff was all ready to dispatch before Christmas. He has promised to send everything on Monday after packaging everything this wknd.

Yup the back log thing happens to some of these folks including rebel racing, tweet restorations and even me from time to time. It's quality service with limited help.. One man band.

Exactly as Ben said. Great people, quality work, limited resources. Back in late summer when I’d sent my 3.6 injectors out to Witchhunter to be cleaned and rebuilt, it took a bit to get them back because he ended up affected by the CA wildfires, another one man show who takes pride in his work. In the Porsche world there are so many examples of these types of craftsmen, Ben just named a few, but I’ll throw Al and Diane Reed into the mix too. Sadly some we’ve lost to retirement or the great beyond.

I would think it might be wise, if nothing else, to go through the inbox on a daily basis and answer the emails from people who have already paid thousands of dollars to you and sent you their valuable parts for re-work?

Even a "sorry it's been really hectic but I haven't forgotten about you" goes a long way, instead of just no reply, at all.

EDIT - haha wouldn't you know, he got back to me this morning It would seem John is alive and well.

Ya know, you can get the same grinds from Webcam. Quick turnaround. No BS. Don't know why you guys put up with the months long wait times and no communication.
