5 now. Although in reality I’m sure it’s a few hundred based on the number of views.
I’m in awe. I bought all the metal working tools but don’t know how to use them. Clearly I could’ve gotten by without them.
Keep up the good work and ,and man you sure are persistent.
Tony

Thanks. Plenty of time to work on it since I’m pretty much stuck at home these days. What metal working tools did you buy?

This one really kicked my ass.

I had to cut out a ton of the race car fabrication to properly make the mount for the G96 transmission. It was a huge PITA, and a 100+ F heat wave didn't help!

In video 23, I carried on with the process of shaving the drip rails. Cut, grind tack grind tack grind cut, etc...

Love your approach on this build Mike, not afraid to follow your vision and figuring things out as you go! I imagine that it helps that you got the car fairly cheap and that it was already extensively cut and modified, so you are most likely increasing the value with your additional mods to make it streetable with a cool non-GT and retromod look.

Yea, that's the plan. I have nothing to lose...it certainly would have never been "stock" again, so I can pretty much do whatever I want with it. :)

Ran the coolant lines through the tunnel. Will be combining heat shielding with modern techniques and products to mitigate cabin heat:

It will be interesting to see how you get those oversize coolant lines out of the steering rack area. You still need 2 fuel lines going through the tunnel.

996 Shifter Install

Was pretty challenged trying to install the 996 cable shift 6 speed shifter into my G96-equipped 69 911, but I got it done!

Good videos and sub'd.
I hope that you can get a better welder to get you those dimes on your welds.
Keep it up and keep going with the build.
You are doing it right with some trial and error and moving forward with figuring it out Mike! http://forums.pelicanparts.com/support/smileys/clap.gif

I have a really nice Lincoln welder. I'm not sure what you're getting at here.

Sorry, I thought you had some cheap welder and then I saw the Lincoln in the garage makeover pt2 and thought my bad. Sorry about that http://forums.pelicanparts.com/suppo...eys/paddel.gif

Finally registered after lurking here for quite some time. Absolutely love this build (and ofc the youtube series), giving me a lot of inspiration for my blasphemy dream build!

I'm really curious to see how you'll fit the motor mounts in the car. Or have you already done it in a previous video? I think I've watched them all.
It's really hard to find somewhat in depth videos of engine swaps in these old chassis. Most of them are mid 90's and newer so your videos are really appreciated! :)

Keep up the good work!

rennch 10-12-2020 10:41 PM

I’m waiting for my adapter plate before I full fab the engine mounts. Soon, hopefully.

Dialing in the drip rail delete. I’ve probably welded/grinded/welded/grinded 10+ times to get to this point.

And here are some mock-ups of the radiator fitment. The bump in the middle accounts for the fan. Then it will be vented out of the rearmost portion of the bumper.

So, I’m doing reversed rear SC flares in the front, and reversed turbo front flares in the rear. The turbo’s have just arrived and I couldn’t resist seeing if it would actually work. (It’s all theoretical at this point.)

I found out by accident. I had a fender sitting on the floor, and I had set one of the SC flares on top of it. I was like "Hey....wait a second..."

Really like the backward flares. The angle on the flare towards the door works surprisingly well.

Edit:
And of course, turbskies! Can't wait! :D

If you're a yoga fan, he'd just done "downward dog", and I think that one is called "upward dog", which is a stretch. :)

If I'm being honest, it's a bit nerve-wracking...but I like to take chances. It's got a little downward slope to it that I think is interesting. I need to get them screwed in,trimmed, with fenders and wheels on to get a clear vision of what the stance will be like.

rennch 10-19-2020 11:59 AM

I had to modify my long axles so that I could correctly position the transmission, so I cut and sleeved them. Now I need to find a source that can make the exact right length that I need, or search for a Porsche axle that is the right size.

I need to measure flange to flange, then see if I can find a resource that fits. Maybe my local Porsche dealer will just let me walk around their parts dept. with a measuring tape ;)
