questions about starting an engine after extended storage
My engine has been layed up for about two years and I plan on putting it back in the car in about a week.
What are the proper procedures for doing so. It is carberated and I will fill the bowls up and make sure none of the seals are leaking and that they arent gummed up. I drained the fuel when I dropped the engine and layed it up. I have read or heard that some marvel mystery oil in the cylinders before start up will help the rings. Initially, I plan on cranking it over with the coil disconnected. anything else? any special advice from our mechanic types? The engine has less than 5,000 miles on it from rebuild. Thanks

use a wrench to turn it over by hand with the key off. i thought i read a post a while ago that you should not crank the engine with the coil wire off it may cause problems with the electronics.

Anything else one should do? I am putting in a 2.4 motor in my 68 911. The motor has been sitting dry for around 8 months. . Thanks.

Do a search for Marvel Mystery oil. I think I remember reading that people squirt some in the jugs before turning the engine over.
