Haven't run them myself, but friends say they're similar to the Rival S but better in the wet and more tolerant of heat.

Advan AO52
I got a set of Yokohama ADVAN A052 for my '86 Carrera to take to the track.
205/55-16 and 245/45-16 on 7" and 9" rims. Granted, I need more tire in front (this is what I've always used), but i think these had better bite than the RE-11 that I had been using for years. And...... they hardly squealed at all. My Re-11s always squealed weather new or old. It was really strange that for half a day I was perplexed as to what was going on because I was way off. Eventually, I figured out that I wasn't pushing so much as before and thus didn't need to turn the wheel as much (more bite). I was sort of making tiny corrections all the time (first half of the day) because I was turning in too much - that's the way it always was and I was used to it with the RE-11. With the A052s I could wait a little longer. Pretty cool.

I was just in Belgium in April, ( April.. i know) and it rained every 45 min for 10 min. so I would go with a tire that can handle a bit of wet..

True, rain is never far away.
My 911 is a garage queen, only sees water when it gets a shower. Still haven’t decided, R888r or Advan A052. Leaning towards the Yokohama’s. Got winter season to make up my mind.

Still following this thread
![]() I'm also in the decision betweed the Toyo and the Advan. I like both for the look, but I think if you get caught in wet condition (Belgium) the Advan is maybe a better choice? |

I just installed a set of the Toyos, as no one has the Yokos in stock. I think Tire Rack has them (Yokos) backordered for 3 or 4 months. I figured both tires aren't really ideal for the rain, so drive carefully regardless. And living in SoCal, this car doesn't see any rain anyway.

Are those 7 and 9’s?
Which tire size did you get on the front wheels?

I don’t know how much better they are in the wet so it’s difficult to decide if it is going to be relevant. When it rains, my speed drops instantly. No matter what tires I am using. The lack of esp, abs, traction control is enough reason to be careful. Dry weather grip, rolling noise, handling are more important to me, I guess. From what I’ve read, they are both good tires and very negative reviews of either are rather rare.

Ok, I've got maybe 50 miles on these new R888Rs, so still too early to give any feedback on their grippiness, but people aren't kidding when they comment on the tread noise. It's not noticable at speed, what with the noises from the motor, wind, and transmission. But when coasting with the clutch in, it's like running off-road tires from a lifted 4x4.

Just wanted to update this thread. I ended up cording one of my front R888Rs while driving out in Colorado last week. I just checked and they had 12,000 miles on them! The tire actually had plenty of tread left but corded from camber wear on the right front.
My rears are almost to 6k miles and the right side is into the secondary rubber but still has way more grip than my new Conti Extreme Contacts that I put on the front to get home.

FWIW, a small amount of camber by itself shouldn't cause much wear, unless it's coupled with toe.
Negative camber and toe in fight each other in road force, so a lot of both equals rapid inside shoulder wear.

16" tires *Just realized this thread is a year old but might be useful to anyone else looking at the very limited options of 245 for their 16x9s
