Porsche 911 tires

I have a 1977 911S that will be needing tires soon. I have run Yokohama's before and been happy with them. Anyone else have a better tire suggestion?? I don't track...just street/highway use.

Thanks!

Continentals are a great choice, I've also had really good luck with Hankooks; specifically the Ventus V12 evo2 - I've had them on maybe ~12k miles and they still look brand new.

I run Bridgestone S02 on the street and am very happy with them after two summers. They come in the stock sizes and are Porsche N-rated as a bonus. FWIW.

The slope is not slippery; in fact it is entirely frictionless.

With consideration to rear tire wear index,
and for street use only, I just put these on the car.

Certainly, you will be inundated with tire recommendations,
and the final choice you make may take a while.

Good luck,

Gerry

Take a look at the reviews (tire rack) for the Michelin Pilot Sport AS. Yes, an all season tire that handles well, is quiet and has a 500 TWR. I've been very happy with them on the 911 and the Outback. They even sell them at Costco.

Not sure on your wheel size... but I found the Firestone Firehawk tires to be a great value for street use.

^^^What he said! I put them on my widebody '80SC and love them!!
Costco regularly runs $70 off on a set of four including nitrogen fill and road hazard warrenty.

I replaced Asymmetrico's with the BRIDGESTONE POTENZA RE-71Re's last month and can't complain. Not sure if it's my new rock hard suspension or not but surprisingly I'm sliding around a lot more now, kinda fun!

I love my Michelin Pilot Super Sports, but I burn through a rear set of tires every year (8-10k miles), and they might be too squirmy up North where you are. If you don't drive in the cold, and don't put many miles on, then they outperformed the Continental DW I had before by a mile. I think that the only street tire that will out perform them is the NEW Super Sports that they just came out with

1977 911s were still narrow fender cars and came with 15" wheels I believe. Makes tire choice a bit harder as many are only available in 16" and larger diameters. Also, some lower profile tires don't look quite right on the earlier cars (in my opinion).

What size wheels and tires are you currently running?

How is the sidewall stiffness on the Conti Extreme Contact Sports? I currently have Bridgestone 760’s but the sidewalls are not stiff enough.

I just picked up a set of these for my 85 Targa, got the $70 coupon and they were also running a special on installation, $0.01 per tire, so it’s possible to score a great deal on these if you are a Costco member.

I put some BFGoodrich G Force Sport Comp 215/55/ZR16 on the back of my 1977 911S. I may have to roll the fender lip but I am not sure as there is about a 1/2 inch clearance between sidewall and the lip.

These threads are always like asking what is your favorite flavor of ice cream, so caveat emptor.

I had the Contis the last time around. Good tire, but the sidewall was a little too soft for my taste. I have the Michelin Pilot Sport AS3+ on 3 cars in the family fleet. Very good tire.

I also have Contis on my wife's SUV. Not a lot of good choices for her car. As they get older they are prone to being noisy. Different model tire though.

You can't buy happiness, but you can buy car parts which is kind of the same thing.

A bit pricey but Michelin is known to have decent tread life.

Resurrection.....figured this was better than starting ANOTHER tire thread.

Same car, narrow middie g-body. I picked up an inexpensive set of 16X7 and 16x8 fuchs. Searches show the 8's will rub without rolling the rear. Currently the 911 has 225/50 R15 all the way around (I know too fat for the wheel).

Would there be a performance gain or loss by keeping the stock 15x6's on front and using the 16x7's on the rear?

Thanks.

why not sell the 16x8 fuchs (which are desirable for 911 sc and carrera owners) and the 15x6 fuchs buy another set of 16x7?

could well have enough $ left over from sales to get the 16x7 refinished?

Suspect you'll have a hard time finding tires available in the sizes required by both the 15 and 16" wheels
