I dropped off my calipers & dust covers at Olsen Motorsports in Downers Grove! They will be vapor blasted using glass beads and baked for Zinc Plating! The owner was kind enough to show me around and wow do they have some amazing projects they are working on. Multiple full body restorations going on and the attention to detail is amazing. Can’t wait to see how everything turns out for my car!
In the meantime I’ll be replacing my smile and preventing some rust in the front https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...c74ddc44bc.jpg Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

In order to remove the smile you have to remove the front bumper. On the drivers side, unscrew the two 8MM screws and pop out the impact accordion/bellow. On the passenger side, you must undo the other two 8MM screws and the whole piece comes out(see second photo). With both sides loose, remove the rubber in front and undo the 4, 15mm bolts. Now I just carefully pulled it off, resting it on the impact absorbers. The screws for the smile were in horrible condition, I am replacing them with some stainless ones. It looks like I got too this car just in time, I have some surface rust to repair but it could have been much worse.
Any recommendations on how I should repair the light rust around the screw holes? Sand it down and Por-15 it.
Funny, I saw this car pop up on one of the local Facebook pages. It was right around the time I bought an '88 with a very similar history. |

I got this Loctite Rust Neutralizer that is suppose to work as a paintable surface that I am trying out. Rust activates it and it turns black, I will then touch it up with some por-15 like you suggested! Yes, I did post on a couple of Facebook pages when I first got the car. Was it a 911 page? https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...3696258227.jpg Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

New brake lines all set up in the front! Just waiting on the calipers to get back from zinc plating. If all goes well, I should be driving within the next two weeks! Any recommendations on brake fluid?https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...a0ee8546d8.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...c98167a27f.jpg

Coated all the rust with the Loctite Rust Neutralizer, it goes on white then dries black. It activates when it comes in contact with rust and forms a paintable coating. Then, I taped it off and coated it in two coats of POR-15. Can’t wait for it to dry and then re-assemble everything. Other parts should be done with Zinc Plating soon! https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...24480fef60.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...9bdea05f80.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...1d4d919246.jpg

My Porsche Production Specifications arrived in the mail today. Interestingly enough, my front & rear spoiler is a factory option! Also has Sport shock absorbers!https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...e709102eec.jpg

I've read mixed reviews on POR15 on this forum.
I have a few spots like that I would also like to clean up. Not sure what to do yet! |

Here is a High-Res picture of the Porsche Production Specifications! A pretty well equipped SC in my opinion! Also confirms that everything on my car is original! https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...3829855609.jpg

I needs to be applied correctly, I haven’t have a bad experience with it yet. I’ve seen people who have coated their frame in POR-15 before, but it doesn’t do well with salt. I coated mine with a rust neutralizer first, then applied POR-15. It looks good and I think it should hold up well. I don’t plan on driving in the rain or snow anyway. Just a side comment- don’t put 100% faith on anything that is listed on the COA.

Why not? It seems completely accurate based off of what I suspected were factory options Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Replacing a cracked headlight lens! After replacing it I realized the passenger headlight lens is a little blurry. I guess I’ll have to replace that one too!

Now that you’ve confirmed it, yes, SCs ordered with a tail got the turbo tea tray tail. The last SCs to get the early Carrera tail were he weissach editions. In 84 the later Carrera tail appeared and ran through 89. This tail is not the tea tray type but does bolt onto the decklid. The turbos ran the tea tray from 78 through to 89. Nobody really knows why Porsche had only the tea tray from 80ish to 83, probably they decided to reduce the number of parts or Everton wanted turbo style tails as they were the new thing. Whatever reason that’s what they did so the correct tail for an 83 is a tea tray tail.

Photos from the shop! Everything is going to look great on the car! https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...67825b020c.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...60b9b3ecc2.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...38dee262ae.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...7a3146874e.jpg

Windy, please be sure that those stainless brake hoses that you decided to use are DOT approved!
Great find! |

Yes I got them on Pelican! DOT approved, didn’t want to cheap out on parts. It wasn’t that much more anyway. |
The Porsche got a step-sister over the weekend as well! It’s a 1960 Triumph TR3 that is a one-owner barn find. In the process of getting it running while waiting on Porsche parts.
Also! I have two oil return lines seals that are leaking on my 911 sc, would I have to drop the engine to fix these? https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...3ce207e3bd.jpg |
I'm probably in minority, but tails don't look right on these cars unless they are a Turbo.
I took mine off the morning after I got it. Looks much better without it. I had a stock engine lid to put on the car in the original color, so that made the choice easy. Just my opinion. Your car and your story are fun to follow and watch, best of luck with it! |
