Hypothetical question...weird color idea.

What do you guys think about a Flat or Satin black '73 Carrera RS replica? Now before you all FREAK OUT on me, hear me out.
I was thinking the satin black with clearcoat.(not spraybombed like my truck:D )
A proffesional paint job with the gloss black RS decal set for subtlety. Maybe switch over to the chrome horn grills to offset the blackness.
Can photoshop pull off a flat or satin black car and look right? If it can could someone photoshop a RS for me to visualize?
Thanks guys.

A friend of mine (professional painter) painted his Toyota to satin yellow/orange. It was very good looking but it was a b-itch to keep clean.

If I remember correctly, there was a picture of a satin black car in an Excellance mag about 6 months back. It made it like a car that had not been waxed in 30 years.

Wasn't that car spraybombed? Alot of the custom bikes now have a satin black paint scheme. It has more of a sheen than a shine. The bikes I have seen look sinister. I will see if I can find a pic of one of the bikes for reference.

Solid slate gray from the '70 model year might be close to this effect, and it's a Porsche color.

The 930 in Excellence is in primer, I think--and it was professionally done, and intended to look that way. I believe the "Carrera" scripts on the rockers/doors were done in gloss black.

Ducati has been doing a flat black treatment on their "Dark" versions of the Monster for a few years. It looks badass.

That is what I am talking about!
Can someone photoshop that color onto a RS for me? Please?

thrown_hammer 03-28-2003 11:04 AM

A guy here in our art dept. is gonna try to mock up a pic of my car for me. If it works I will post it.

I would do satin black WITH metallic or metal flake in it. I think that would be really interesting. I wouldn't have my car that color -- but it's one I'd enjoy seeing at a show, etc.

Dude - cover it in black velvet ! . . . then paint on an Elvis.

Here is a pic of an R1 w/ a flat black paint job on it...polished frame, swingarm and wheel lips...to each his own i guess.

DOH gotta sign up to see it.

Satin black with all black details and interior. Tinted glass and glossy black script would look really mean. Probably a pain to keep up though and would need a real master painter to get it right and not looking like a bad diy blowover completed on a wet afternoon.

Not everyone liked the car in Excellence, but I thought it was very cool. A well done flat/matte black car can be cool. Black accents including all black wheels.

Shawn, you're just trying to get out of painting that new rear bumper!

ZAMIRZ 03-28-2003 01:20 PM

Depending on how you do it, it could look badass or just plain ghetto/stupid. This is what I would say, a very good use of the application:

matte black 996 turbo

later,

amir

RallyJon 03-28-2003 01:25 PM

Wow--I'd love to see more pics of that 996TT!

I think you'd want to emulate the color of a recently vaselined Fuchs center. Flat--but with a subtle glow...

Here are a few links that might help with the actual painting process...

Primer. Nice wet coat. If you don't like it , then at least it's ready to paint.

Satin Black Pwder Coat

I have seen a 40 Ford that the WHOLE body was black satin powder coating. It was a wagon and the new wood on the back was awsom looking.

As for a Porsche, go for it guy. If ya' don't love it later your not out much.

Look at some early pics of Curtis A's car with the dark paint and dark R Gruppe logo. I think that is what you are getting at and it looked "Great" on his car.
