REplacing voltage regulator

My voltage regulator may have went bad. Can I get any regulator that handles the same amperage?

My car has a Motorola 70 AMP unit, but I can get my hands on a bosch 70 amp unit, will this suffice?

THanks

My car has a sticker on it to use only the same company for both VR and alternator. It could be wrong though alot can happen in 30 years

It's a 1970 chassis, 83 motor, possibly a 74 alternator. No one seems to carry it.

The real question is will any regulator that can handle the amperage (say 70AMP) work?

Without getting into it too deep, wont a VR for most car work as long as the amperage load is higher enough? I am not a sparky (EE), but it seemed reasonable.

Chris' looks like this one:

Well bit the bullet and ordered on because no one local has it. Another week down the tubes while I wait.

It is clear from opening it up that the only failed part of the regulator is a 5 cent capacitor, but in the factories wisdom they saw to covering the part up with some goop so you can't read what SIZE it is. So it costs me an additional $70.95 because of the darn epoxy crud on it. (*&$@#()*&$!!!!

Voltage Regular from '78SC

Chris,
I have converted to alternator with integrated VR. The spare voltage regulator is similar to that on the picture posted by Souk. You can have it.

Boyt911sc. I can definitely use it. I'll contact you off list...

I've ordered the part already so if you think you might need it for any reason, I'll understand. Otherwise as a thank-you, I'll be happy to at least send you a signed version of one of these:
