I am about ready to close another maintenance chapter which took longer then expected. I want to install the valve covers 6 nuts on top, 11 nuts at the bottom of each side. The security nuts that came with the a variety of other item as part of a kit seem to be the right size, BUT, mounting them is a challenge...turning require the use of a wrench and I have a hard time feeling comfortable that they reached the preliminary tightening prior to torquing them to 6 FT/LB OR 8NM as required... I do have a good quality torque wrench and I tested it on another bolt elsewhere mounted already ...the the click was heard in no time... I Tried torquing one of the cover nuts and I seem to go on and on but it seems the tightening was significant for only 6 ft/lb. and no click... Any suggestions? |

Hi David,
I’ve never put a torque wrench on my valve cover nuts, those things are not going to work themselves off with the plastic insert in them. I just tighten until the valve cover is seated and the nuts are snug. If they leak, then I will tighten a bit more. Rutager
