Custom Muffler...R meets 908

Wanted to share some pics and video of a muffler I had a buddy put together. Shoutout to Hoover Chan at Turbohoses of Livermore, CA for this creation, affectionately named "Barry White" due in part to the smooth, deep sound. Hoover has developed a few different styles including GT3 and R-style, and I purchased 2 cookie cutter inserts from GT Racing and shipped them to him to modify the tips with. Topping it off is a vacuum actuated valve on the right pipe. At cruise, very reasonable sound level, able to carry on a conversation at normal talking volume, and an absolute monster when you get on it.

sounds so perfect. What headers are on here? And maybe I'm missing something from the angle of the photo but what is the benefit and flow change with the valve?

Good ol' SSIs. The valve closes off the right pipe quiets it down a bit more.

Wow beautiful muffler. I always wanted to build a similar setup, did your buddy plan on making these for other porsche owners? Seems pretty loud, how much quieter is it compared to open header?

What is the flow between the banks? Is it a cross-flow? At first I thought they might be isolated.

You can't buy happiness, but you can buy car parts which is kind of the same thing.

No plans for mass production I believe, but feel free to reach out to him, I’m sure he would be happy to chat further. The shop is called Turbohoses. It’s not overly loud, quieter than an old M&K I had. Nothing like open headers.

Did he make this for you off the car and ship it? I've been wanting to do a setup like this for mine with LT headers. I'm after the full loud. My MK Race exhaust with stock headers isn't enough for me.

What engine is in there? Are you running lighter flywheel and ITBs? This things sounds unreal.

He has a 3.0 with SSIs, same setup as my car and made it based off of one he made for his. Mine is a late Euro 3.0, internally stock, with Triumph ITBs and AEM ECU. Stock flywheel.

thanks man. I have a 3.2 so I'd imagine he would need one there to build one similar for me

Not necessarily...just might need measurement between flange bolts. For instance, mine is 19.75 inches between the inner bolts and 26 inches between the outers.

Mike,
Was the center-outlet Vibrant muffler too restrictive? Was that the 3" outlet?

Not at all, that muffler was very free flowing and gained me 12ish hp and about 10 lb ft of torque across the board over my old M&K GT3. Simply decided to change it up and add some bells and whistles with this new one. The center outlet was a bit more than 3 inches. I believe the inlet pipes were 2.5 or 3 inches. Don’t remember off the top of my head.
