Rarelyl8 Headers Vs SSIs
I'm building a 2.8. J&E 9:5.1 pistons, Mod S cams, large ported heads, 46 PM0s. I'm running SSIs with M&K GT3 sport muffler now. Wondering if Rarelyl8 headers would help with any gains over SSIs. Price? Weight? HP? Input welcomed

I just deleted the heat on my 3.2 and added RarelyL8 headers. It definitely woke up the car.
Is the cost worth the gain.?......I don't know and I didn't care. They were 25 lbs lighter than my heat maybe more. Their 2 in 2 out Muffler weighted a great deal less than my existing set up. I have $3,721 invested in parts.

I've been Trying to get advice from Brian on this. I have read that his headers are designed for 3.2 and more...

I believe Brian’s original headers were designed for 3.2. There was a thread here recently where he said he is coming out with new headers for the 2.7 - 3.0 motors. The smaller displacement headers are 1.5” IIRC.

There's no comparison Brian's headers are better. They are actual equal length and have a proper merge collector. Nominal gains are certainly had probably in the 4000rpm-7000rpm+, but likely only 5-10bhp at the wheels, if that. I'm sure Brian has better data

Appreciate the kind words fellas. Our long tube headers are build to order to match the application. Your 2.8L engine with 38mm exhaust ports would need 1.63" primaries which eliminates SSI from the list. For street use the merge collector could terminate with a 2" outlet, for track use a step header with 2.25" outlet and 20" secondary could produce more power depending on anticipated redline, preferred peak HP RPM and torque curve. Estimating HP increase using a system such as this over SSI varies engine to engine. All I can say is that a system designed for the engine would definitely perform better than one off the shelf.

Primary length
Sounds almost evil at 20 inches.

I just weighed my SSIs 15lbs each. Brian's headers 10lbs each. Nice weight savings.

Primary length of our long tube version is 31" +/- 0.25" for a true tuned equal length system.
The RSR headers work off 5th harmonic and have 17" primary length to hit the Carrera sweet spot of 5800rpm.

Those welds are like you see on a jet engine, or other top level military/NASA hardware, just incredible. Puts the price in context, too.

Best exhaust I have ever had on any car was my RarlyL8 GT3 style exhaust in Hooligan form on my boosted 930. The sound at WOFT was epic!
Next time, full headers and exhaust! I can't wait! |

2 2 sport
I keep walking around my new 2 2 sport muffler - I can hardly wait to hear it when I get the engine and tranny back in. Hopefully, it will make the little 150 hp engine sound like 200.
Sure is light,chris |
