Need help separating seat back from seat bottom G Series

I have a little spare time, so I decided to re-dye the leather in my ‘87 Targa.
Anyone know how to separate the seat back from the bottom?
I removed the two 15mm bolts on each side as well as the release but it doesn’t move.

Tony I have done this....it's been a while. Can't remember how much force I exerted to separate the two. I also thought the two bolts (on both sides) and a little persuasion and that did it.

edit...check underneath for those power assist cables under tension.....

Did you disconnect the housing for the release cable? It’s crimped on to the hinge. Once you have that, the bolts and the release wire disconnected, the two half’s pull apart.

I got it! I had to remove the C-clips that hold pivot point and remove the 2mm Allen from the center.once that was removed, I used a needle nose to remove the square rod. This released the seat. The last set was to disconnect the wires from under the seat and fish them through the seat back.
Thanks for the help guys!

Re: Removal of Top seat from Bottom seat of 88 Carrera

This is very helpful.

Question - does the square metal rod come all the way out or is it pushed all the way in?

Mine only moves partially in or out. Will not move all out or all in either way.

Not wanting to damage the mechanism.

????

I pushed the rod out. It should just slide out with a little help from the needle nose pliers. You can move the seat back cushion with your hand to get a good visual of the square bar.
