DIY: Fuchs RSR finish.
While all my work is cancelled or postponed, I've been trying to stay busy in the garage and recently picked up some date matched weathered 15x7/8 Fuchs that were straight and true but looked a bit beat.
I had the wheels media blasted, then mounted them on the front of my 911 and used my motorcycle on the center stand and 2nd gear idle to spin them so I could wet sand the lips. After the first wheel, with much respect and consideration for my last few remaining brain cells, I decided to engineer and fabricate an exhaust shield out of what I could find in the garage. 220 wet, 320 wet, 400 wet, and 500 wet sand for final lip polish. I did not want a mirror or glossy finish but enough to stand out from the barrel. The next step was anodizing. I dropped them off at a local metal finishing place and had them clear anodized. I taped off the stamping on the back of the petals to make sure no paint covers them and then in the openings of the petals. I taped off the barrels from excess paint running down also from the next step. Slowly poured in Rustoleum satin black enamel paint till the level looked about right, totally eyeballed this one. Poked holes and let the paint drain after 3 minutes of sitting. let them cure overnight before removing tape and plastic from the backside. ![]()

I am wrapping them up and putting them in the attic until my whole suspension rebuild is refreshed so I do not have to readjust the ride height going from 16" to 15". Paint should be totally cured by then. Car is getting sport struts all around, 22/29 hollow bars, poly bronze bushings, and eibach sways. Plan for tires is 225/50 and 235/50 Toyo R888r.
Overall a really easy way to refinish them to factory anodized RSR spec without paying $500/wheel

$100 for blasting, $200 for anodizing.

What material were they blasted with?
Looks like you got a great final result!

That mortorcycle trick has got to be the most jerry-rigged/inventive thing I have ever seen on this forum.
The results speak for them selves. Great job.

You will need to get the paint out of the lug nut recesses. This can lead to a loosening of the lug nuts if the paint chips out after installation.

Wow! they turned out great! And you managed to save yourself the tedious job of taping off the petals. Really cool.
