Bitz problems

Can anybody help with my 911 bitzset. When i turn ignition, the first diode only flashes once? If i turn key 12-15 times for flash i can start the engine for 3-4 seconds?? Tony says i must have lost trigger from MSD to Megasqurt? I do not think Msd has anything to do with this. MSD is just for spark, and there is plenty! What do i do and look for?

Your megasquirt in the Bitz kit gives a prime shot each time you turn the key on. Your 3-4 sec run is likely just burning off I burned fuel from the prime. The system need a good tach signal to tell the injectors to fire., so tony is likely right on this one... he usually is.

You should be be able to tell if the ECU is flashing properly, if the fuel pump runs through it’s 4 sec cycle and then shuts off, until the engine cranks over.

You should be able to tell if you are getting a tach signal on by checking the tach gauge in tuner studio

Good luck

You aren’t getting a tach signal

I'd chase down any advise from Tony, until it's proven wrong, then I'd ask for more. Not saying you can't ask others for ideas, but he's been supporting us customers for a while. Probably the shortest distance between not running and running.

mike.......one of the advantages of using Megasquirt is the ability to be able to view the sensor inputs, etc.....and to datalog. Using Tunerstudio and Megalogviewer are essential to gaining an understanding of the tuning process and/or debugging a non-running engine. Oilman's take on it sounds like a very good possibility to me. however....I think that the Megasquirt will not provide spark without a good tach signal either......

If you are able to get it to start on the prime pulse and get it to start for a few seconds....you are likely getting the tach signal, but no ...or not enough cranking, afterstart enrichment or warmup fuel....also, it could be an ignition problem......but you will be able to figure it out much more easily if you will review what is happening during startup, by using the tools related to the system...Tunerstudio and MegalogViewer.......and then, if you need help, you will be able to post the tune file and log file for more experienced Meagsquirt tuners to review ....like Tony Bitz........

Mike, you can determine a lot by looking at the gauges on turner studio, and even more with the catalog files.... Al is correct above, if the megasquirt is running the ignition, and the engine fires, you are likely getting a tach signal. If you have Tony’s standard kit, then you are using your ‘stock’ ignition, and just using the tack signal to tell the injectors to fire,

The Tach signal to the Bitz kit can be a bit tricky to get right, and I noticed you have and MSD box vs the original premature. tony will be able to help you get the tach signal sorted. To confirm if you have a tach signal ( or not) , you should be able to simple read the gauge in turner studio while cranking to see if it moves... should be a couple hundred RPM on the gauge while cranking.

Good luck... you’ll love it once you get things going.

Btw.... if you haven’t already, I highly recommend the wide band O2 for tuning.
