What switch (or other gizmo) would have gone here?

To the left of the light switch in my '87 911, there is what appears to be "a place" for a switch (or ???). At one time, one of the previous owners used this location for an alarm-related LED. I've got the hole filled with a black plastic plug. I would rather have "the switch" - even if unused - than my goofy round plug. So, the question: what switch would have been in that place, and where can I get one?

Danke

Probably had an alarm LED or Remote radar detector LED or switch/knob.

Apparently this was reserved for an optional headlight leveling switch that was on the RoW cars.

I used that spot for a manual override switch for the right front fender oil cooler fan.

Oooooo... Great idea. Now, to find a switch that fits and looks good. I'll check out the rear wiper switch.

Where is the power switch for cabriolet tops located? I thought that's where it went.

I put my oil cooler fan bypass switch there as well though.

Cab power top switch is located on the bottom of the instrument panel fascia, like the power mirror selector switch.

There's a small rectangular cutout also located on the bottom of the instrument panel fascia (at least there is on my '87 & '88) between the speedo and the clock. You can feel the opening through the instrument panel fascia vinyl covering. You can easily fit a rocker switch there to control the oil cooler fan.

Rob, on your car it appears as if there was an alarm LED, or similar, installed where the headlight level adjuster switch blank is? If so, it also appears that somebody filled the ensuing hole with a plug similar to what's used on the screw hole for the trailing edge of the door panel garnish trim.

FWIW, I'd go with the lower instrument panel fascia location for the switch as it's more hidden and the only thing requiring cutting is the vinyl covering.

Yep... From my original post: "At one time, one of the previous owners used this location for an alarm-related LED. I've got the hole filled with a black plastic plug."

Have a great weekend, guys! Frank: have you seen the newly-listed M491 on BaT?

Ugh. My reading comprehension drops precipitously at 4a.

Yes, Daniel's car. I had spoken to him right as he first got it. Looks like fun. It'll be interesting to see how it does given that it won't pass emission testing requirements in some states.
