This. And likely a better alternator than many available units. And you know it will fit.

Find a lost rebuild shop. You will be better off.

Yes, that's a 70A alt. Most '71s used a 30A, but some may have a 55A. The 70A requires a different fan housing.

Check if the VR (voltage regulator) is built into the Alt or by the rear fuse box. Was separate on my 73 and integrated into the Alt on my 89.

Replaced mine a couple weeks ago. Remanufactured Bosch Alt from Advanced Auto. Fit and works perfectly. Prob better than the Velaro Alt that was stock. $200. Looks new.

The only Bosch alt that was used on pre 1990 Porsches was before 1975.
All the alternators available now are Valeo types up to the 964 Bosch.
Because the box indicates Bosch, doesn't mean that it's a Bosch design.

As can be seen on the plate, it's a Bosch 55A.

Dave,

It says Bosch right on the Alternator and it fits and works perfectly. Installed it a couple weeks ago on my 89 Carrera.
No way would Advanced Auto put a Velaro alternator in a Bosch box or change labels.

Chris

It's a Valeo Alternator! The same one my '88 911 had as original equipment.
Again, Bosch NEVER made an alternator for a 911 3.2 ('84-'89).

That Valeo, "Bosch Rebuilt", is even less reliable than the original Valeo. Because instead of French Valeo regulator, it uses a junk China regulator.

Look closely, it's a reman junk!

We have sold over 40 of these Bosch remanufactured units in the last year with only 1 returned. Being its a remanned unit theres always an off chance of QC issues but this appears to be the correct unit for your model and year.

Its Bosch. Label, warrante, Box, documentation and all. Can't convince me otherwise.

And my '88 911 3.2 is now a '88 911 Turbo, since I installed a turbo sticker, right?

I would feel much better about it if you said it IS the correct unit for my car and year

If your Porsche is a 911 3.2 ('84 - '89), it's the correct alternator (a 90 amp Valeo).
Porsche also used a Valeo as an OEM alt (75A) in the '82/'83 911SC, not a Bosch.

I installed one of these high output alternators in my 88. With lots of modern add-ons to include upgraded A/C (Griffith's system), sterol, USB plug-ins, radar detectors, etc, my volts would run in the low 13s and dip into the high 12s when all the/ a/c fans and condenser electric fans would come on. After installing this alternator, I never see lower than the high 13s.

https://www.classicretrofit.com/collections/upgraded-alternators/products/porsche-911-high-output-150a-alternator

Good luck.
