Form and Function
Soooooo I loved the look of the Fuch mounted on the collapsible tire.... BUT there was no real way of securing it down well. I looked everywhere for a solution but I wasn't really able to find one. Lots of guys secured the spare down with leather straps, with the factory bolt down, with straps, with all kinds of other things to secure the rim down..... I didnt see anything I liked at all.
Sooooo I made one that had form and function. I happened to have a an extra beat up CAP laying around soo I got some sandpaper and went from 250 to 3000 grit and a bit of polish. Then I welded the factory bolt onto the back of it. THEN..... SCREWED IT INTO PLACE! simple and works perfectly..... ![]() ![]() |

The only reason I did it was because I would never use the spare...
AAA is the way to go for sure! |

Looks great, but after all that ingenuity and attention to detail you didn't clock the centercap such that it points to the valve stem? 😜

I've always wondered if the spare also served the purpose of protecting the fuel tank in case of a front end collision.

That is good option if you always stay in town and never take a road trip. In the middle of nowhere is sucks. I have been lucky and my spare has never hit the ground. I have the tire plugs, and fix a flat, and AAA, but I do have my spare.

FOLLOW- UP Frunk
Sooooooo have an update........
Since this was my 1st time doing ANY kind of upholstery and design, I kinda dropped the ball, I just didnt know any better. I used some glue that did NOT work out tell well...... it dried extremely blotchy and didnt look good at all. It was really bothering me but I figured I would take on RE-DOING the cover some-day soon enough. Well it kept bothering me. Since I now had some experience and it seemed easy enough....... I went to the fabric store and got some more material......$5.00. Also..... an unexpected performance issue came up. Once the FRUNK cover was installed..... I had NO ACESS to the battery to hook up my trickle charger since I dont use the car daily but like to keep my battery fully charged. Since I was re-uphostering the whole thing...... why NOT try and add to the design and make come trickle charger access holes? I took some careful measurements and hoped for the best! I think it all came out OK... and now I can attach my trickle charger AND the covering is smooth and nice. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() https://photos.app.goo.gl/pEVxn35841AZcqoH7 |
