81 911SC roll bar drop link bushing pulling out.
Hi all,
This keeps happening - one side of the rear anti-roll bar (sway bar for you guys ![]() The top bush stays bolted to the beam, the bottom bush stays bolted to the roll bar with the metal link attached. 81 911SC on Bilstein HD Nurburgring dampers. I had the car set-up by a known east coast shop a few years ago. They corner weighted and aligned it. Up to that point the car was riding the bump stops all the time. Terrible ride and dynamics. The shop cut the bump spots as part of the corner weighting. It does sit low, visually. But no rubbing or bottoming out. Is the droplink issue a consequence of the lower ride height? You can see the alignment of the bushes isn't quite right when static. ![]() ![]() |

I have the same issue, after 2 seasons on an Elephant Racing suspension refresh. My wrench says it’s either a bent banana arm (no idea if it’s the case) or a bent spring plate (wrench says one looks to be a bit bent). I’ve put a new link in for the time being; it’s exhibiting a lot of preload to get the link on. Wrench suggested trying adjustable links, which I may.

Hi - I would have thought that a bent arm would show when the alignment was set and a bent plate you would be able to spot by eye? Also while its the same side pulling out, the other side is on the cusp of doing it, suggesting that the side loading is similar on both ends of the bar.
This is my second set of droplinks, I will investigate the adjustable ones. Thanks. |

just a thought without looking at it but can you add washers behind the top mount to move it forward more inline with the bar? Or perhaps a large washer on the outside to help retain it. I would say its more likely a bent swaybar causing misalignment

it is missing the big washer to prevent this!
always mount droplinks with wide diameter washer between link rubber and nut or get the stainless steel ball-joint version https://partworks.de/partworks-de-Porsche-968-Koppelstangen-fuer-Porsche-924-944-968-Stabilisator-Hinterachse-UNIBALL.html

Checking the PET the drop links are different for each side so are they mounted on the correct side of the car?

If any part is bent it would not corner balance period. It takes experience to see this.
Then you have to investigate what part is bent. It could be the chassis also. That was the problem in one of my cars. Trail and error....

It looks like you have the Lemfoerder drop link:https://www.pelicanparts.com/catalog/SuperCat/0801/POR_0801_SUSSHK_pg9.htm#item30
These are junk, the bushings are not captured as the original. After just bashing Uro parts on another thread, I will recommend their part here! Look at this drop link and how the bushing is "captured". Just like the factory unit. Our host shouldn't even sell the Lemfoerder. As others have said, a large washer will help, but I'd recommend the Uro or the O.E.
