Help, how to remove roll pin (not Porsche)
I am having a problem removing a roll pin. Full disclosure here, its on my bike. It's a 1966 Ducati. The pin is tiny maybe about 3mm is diameter and it is stuck. I have tried all kinds of pliers and vice grips and they just slip off. I remember that the roll pin was really tight when I banged it in. I would like to save the pins as well. Any ideas?

Relegate the roll pin to be a sacrificial part. Putting a mighty grip on it may bend and distort it.
Use locking pliers with serrated teeth running parallel to the pin. Lock the pin a small distance from the hole (try not to block the roll pin gap from closing). Locking the jaws tight should reduce the roll pin OD slightly to loosen its grip. Insert the tip of a long crow bar-like pry bar between the plier jaw and the housing near the hole, then pry/lever it out. It the pry bar tip is angled, all the better for better leverage. It looks like the selector lever. Does it have to come out? Sherwood |
