Dont trust the dimensions on tires guys!! Look at this pics..

I went for picking up my wheels with new tires on yesterday, this year I choose to have a cheaper tire because there be no driving on tracks with this wheels.

Anyway I ordered a couple of Falken FK-451 in the dimension 255/35/18.

It shows up that thoose tires is much smaller then my Yokohama in the same dimension was.??

Damn it!!

Not a chance I agree with that, have any of you some explanation for me how it could be like this??

"The wheels are 10" wide"

/Jocke

I have heard of this before. 2 tires can have different tread width in spite of both being for example 255/35x18 tires. This, I'm told, is caused by a different construction in the "karkasse" (sorry for the danish word - have no dictionary here).

All of the 'new design' tires have that rim guard bead on the outer lip now, but Mikkel is right, although it seems all 285 width tires should be the same they arent.

The Falken is mounted, pumped with air, and has fresh tread. The other is worn & flat. I' bet its less of a difference unmounted.

It is actually fairly common for tires with the same spec to be slightly different sizes.

I always try and find the spec sheet on the manufacturers website to get the true measurements.

There are enough minor differences to make a big difference in overall appearence.

You also need to check the rolling diameter as it can slightly affect your speedo.

All tires are different. If you go to the bridgestone site and look at the measurements for a 225 50 16 in RE 730 and S-03 the tread width is from memory about 1/2" wider on the S-03. I think in that case it's so the S-03 consistently outperforms its little brother. When going between brands it is likely to be even more skewed.

This could be the reason why some tires rub and others don't on the same car. My 245/40x17 Dunlop SP9000 *just* fit, but if I replace them with some other brand that has a wider cunstruction I'll probably get problems with rubbing.

Offcourse itīs different when itīs mounted on the wheel, but not that much I think.

Hard to se on this pic, but I think the difference are huge. (this pic are with Yokohama)

Bridgestone S-03 specs

Speaking of specs. You can't even go by the specs for different sizes in the same model and brand of tire. The specs for the Bridgeston S-03 245/45x16 list treadwidth as 9.1". When measured they are closer to 8.5". When mounted they are almost the same treadwidth as 225/5x16.

Just a note. The 'shoulders' of the tyres are different. Some have 'squareer' shoulders giving wider tread patch but 'edgier' on the limit characteristics. The 'rounded' shoulders are slightly narrower but will be more progressive...at least that's what my shop has advised me on different tyre types and makes.

Yokohamas run bigger (wider) than most other brands.
When the Pirellis wore out on the posermobile they were replaced with AVS Intermediates. I had to re-space the wheels due to the AVS tires being 3/4" wider than the others. (345/35-15).

Allright maybe a little way from the subject, but anyway...

Sorry to say I dont have any spec or details on it.

The suspension was already on the car when I bought it, but the old recipts shows that itīs RUF original, thats all I now...
