Bilstien inserts for boge struts

I have just removed the struts from my 85 targa which has had Bilstien (green) inserts installed by a PO. When I removed the dust cover there were no rubber bump stops as shown in bentleys. Is this normal for the bilstien inserts.

I have a similar setup one one car. It does have the bump stops.

When you think about it. It should have those rubber bump stops.

Don't the bump stops go on the bottom on Bilsteins?

Yeah, the bump stops are "on the bottom" where you can't see them in the Bilstein for Boge, same as on the Bilstein for Bilstein. Inside, so to speak, as that is where the moving shock parts are - like Trashrack's picture.

A small correction. If you remove a Bilstein shock from a Bilstein strut, you can then see the bump rubbers, as the first picture showed. I don't think there is a practical way of opening up a Bilstein for Boge shock (John's picture)to see what is in there or to change it. But there are bump rubbers there - have to be.

Maybe it is easier than I think to open up that Boge package and reseal it, but I don't think so, at least not unless you are in the shock repair business.

Hard to get any manual right about everything. For years Clymer's (US publisher of manuals about all sorts of vehicles)had a whopper or two, misleading generations of backyard mechanics. With the fora we have these days, information is much easier to get.

Ditto on mine, no rubber on my bilstien inserts for boge struts.
I will be checking my torque settings once my tool arrives. Took things apart today to determine if I need rubber on top.

Thanks to JW, I'm sure I do not need any rubber bumpers. Have to use my full weight to compress the dang things!

Ditto here, I just replaced the original Boge inserts with Bilstien B8s and there's no rubber anything below the insert.

The bump rubber is internal to your style of shock , First pic
is normal BIL, second yellow shock or green , has the internal bump rubber
