Rear seat delete
Hey,
I decided to finally continue with my rear seat delete project. Materials are aluminum and a bunch of rivets. For those who are aviation oriented, I didn't figger out spacing or edge distance. The frame is 1100 series angle and the sheet is .063 6061 and .093 6061 for the face. It mounts to the OEM seat pivot points. ![]() ![]() ![]() I am gonna cut 2 hatches for storing misc junk, I will use a couple of OEM glove box knobs for securing the doors. ![]() ![]() enjoy eric P.S. Weight is right at 12 Lbs, including Clecos.

For god's sake, man; take out the carpet and put it out of the way somewhere.
Looks fantastic otherwise!!!

Single row rivets, the edge distance should not be less than 2 times the diameter of the rivet and spacing should not be less than 3 times the diameter of the rivet. That does look great, you can put this in the log book. "This aircraft (911) is deemed airworthy at this time. J.T. Brown AP3132183"

12 lbs. is a significant improvement - many people have actually removed the rear seat to "make a light weight" and then added back over 30 lbs. of plywood
thx for posting - I have some plans for my car also... |

Nice work! A great option to plywood. Though you should know that an original rear seat delete with padding and carpet was only 14 lbs. Repro's out there from myself and Tony at Autobahn run 12.2 lbs with no carpeting.
Note that if you consider to make a "run" of them that each model of car is different ... targas different from coupes. Different seat belt configurations also mean a different contour to them as well. Congrats!! Lots of hard work in there.... e

This looks more like a rear seat transmogrification. It appears very well made but I guess I don't get it. Is the goal to provide a shiny flat place to throw things?

Very nice fab. work.
If I may continue with Phase 2. Replace aluminum framework with a one-piece CF structure. Replace the sheet al. shelf with lighter weight honeycomb material or CF covered in Perlon. Replace steel pivot bolts and other fasteners with aluminum versions (we'll save Ti for Phase 3). Attach the assembly to the body structure to increase chassis rigidity. For grins, securely mount lightweight tools + other road tools/accessories on a removable mounting board under the shelf cover at the ready (I'm always gathering up tools that slip out of the vinyl case). For storage, provide nesting for 5 bottles of vintage wine, two stem glasses and a warm blanket. Keep/hide the "good stuff" in the smugglers compartment. ;-). This is fun. Sherwood |

Sorry Sherwood, you're going to need a Production Permit from the Porsche engineering department if you deviate from the standard modification procedures ...
We're already into carbon fiber ??? Cheers ! Phil

I need to transport my roll-aboard and flight case to work, and the roll-aboard was shredding the OEM seat backs. In 4 years of ownership I have had one pax in the rear seats. When it is all said and done I will paint the aluminum semi gloss black and put a carpet on top for sound deadening. It was too chilly outdoors and I was bored, go figger, I do this stuff for my self, for grins. eric

I don't know, pick one! All the materials were leftovers from other structural A/C repairs(except the AL angle, that was salvage). When you look at planes all day long its easy to see P-Car applications in the planes, lets see, light weight, strong and fast, works for me! eric

No worries, thanks for the kind words, no danger of a production run, I loose interest after the first one. If I wanna work with AL, I can just accept one of my old customers offer of work on their planes and make a good wage. I have found if one doesn't exercise fabrication skills they atrophy, and it takes a bit of effort to get them back to snuff. eric

Yep,i know the feeling ...
30 years and counting as a licensed airframes tech for a major airline, those fabrication skills sure do come in pretty handy for various projects ! Cheers ! Phil

Phil,
Got my A&P a long time ago, I have found that most mechanics don't like to fabricate, R&R is their choice. I used to work on old warbirds and A/C out of production. Did all sorts of mods to warbirds(experimental), production and out of production planes, actually preferred that to the R&R work. eric
