rebuild 3.2 or move to 3.6 (993)
In the past the people on this board have helped me a lot. Thanks to Jack and the rest, I appreciate it. I have a 3.2 which is running fine. Like the rest of you I would like more HP! So I am trying to make up my mind and to plan for the best solution. O.k. so here is where I'd like you guys to come in: what is best, build up the 3.2 or buy the 3.6? I'd like to get into the 250-300 HP range. Thanks and anyone in NYC who has experience with this please email me and I'll buy the beer if you'll share your experience! --James

go with a 3.6, there is a reason the "no substitute for cubic inches" saying is universal. I would love to build a really sweet 3.2 that ran more like an old S, but the smart money is on a bigger engine.

It depends on your specific goals. A 3.2 provides a path to more-economical horsepower in a race motor. It will also get you into better classes with most sanctioning groups.
An unmodified 3.6 will give you buckets of torque and Toyota-Camry-like reliability. In two years of hard track use, I've added oil to my motor, and that's it. Maxed-out race motors require a lot more maintenance, and often aren't a whole lot of fun around town. On the track, though, they'll get the job done. There are risks with both. A new engine brings with it a lot of unknowns. A rebuilt motor sinks or swims depending on its rebuilder's attention to detail and skill.

Jack, what year did your 3.6 come out of? When will your new site be done? I think I speak for the rest of us when I say that I am anxious to see the new ride! Finally, what are your thoughts on 3.6 verse 993? Do I stick with my 915?

If you can afford the 3.6 thats the way to go-
High compression twin plugs EFI cubic inches. Emissions ease (if that is relevant). But if you are like me, on a budget and are cocky enough to think you can rebuild yourself - a hot rodded 3.0 or 3.2 is probably plenty. A torky 3.2 with good throttle response should be plenty fast. Where have you been : - )) Jacks car has been done look for the "OTC" threads for great stories and picks!!
