Targa bar and script colors
Hi -
I'm wondering about targa bar and script colors. I've seen all sorts of combinations (e.g., polished with gold script, black with black script, black with white script, etc.). What is stock? Does it depend on the model year or color? Are/were these options with noted codes? Anyways, curious to know where i can find out about it generally, and most curious about what is stock for my 84 Rubinrot targa. Thanks! Layroo73 |

my 1980 targa came with black targa bar and silver script. I recently changed it to stainless bar with black script.

For the OP, I think stock for 1984 was a black targa bar.

I'm curious too. Did a Google and Bing search for '84s and all were black Targas. Some had silver script. Some black. The option to choose brushed stainless or black I know was introduced in 1973. Am inclined to believe that during the '80s the "look" was black.

Black on black
The stock look, starting in 1980, was black painted bar with black anodized scripts. I have the factory brochure from 1980 and that is what you see. The anodizing is not light-fast, and fades over time, which is why most of them are now some shade of silver. If you were to look at the underside of the script, it should be black.

I can investigate myself, but someone may know to answer quick.
How are the Targa scripts removed from the bar? I assume they’re fastened from behind with speed screws similar to the hood badge, is that right? Thanks...

I think the script on my '78 ROW Targa was black originally.......the brushed is factory as is the chrome trim package. A green car with chrome was antithetical to what was popular in the late '70s. Now, it is a premium according to the latest issue of Panorama.
Go figure. Fads come and go.

There are numerous posts on this- the stainless is right there under the black paint. How you brush it to produce the grain seems to be a matter of discussion.
