3.2 running strange

My 89 Carrera was running funny. Felt like a miss or lean condition at low RPM's. Ordered plugs, cap and rotor even though they are only a couple years old.

Turns out the AC was on (lowest setting) and that was what I was feeling. Turned the knob one click to off and she is smooth as butter again.

Just thought I would share. Will hold on to the tune up parts for down the road when they are needed.

Well have to say my '88 runs fine with ac on...the ac sucks, but that's another story/thread.

Is it possible the idle is just too low?

Mine runs fine with or without the AC compressor running. I have the upgraded fan switch with infinite fan speeds, not just three, from Griffith's that has an indicator LED that lets me know when the compressor is running or not. Other than the air temperature or the LED changing colors I can't tell if the compressor is running.

I don't think the DME is involved with the AC circuit. Modern cars for sure know if the compressor is running and adapt the engine idle to compensate.

It runs fine but I was feeling the compressor come on and off. Not that the AC really does much cooling despite a steady investment.

The ecu is not ‘involved’ but it knows when ac is turned on and can adapt to the load (at idle for instance). Don’t know by how much that is programmed into the eeprom
