Central locking switch (CLS) issue 85 911

1985 911
1) Normally, with the passenger door open and the driver side door closed, I was able to lock both doors using the CLS. Now I can not.... I dont even hear a sound in the locking system when pressing the CLS.

2) using the key on the passenger side door, I CAN NOT lock or unlock doors.
I CAN lock and unlock doors with key on the driver side.

The CLS locks both doors when both doors are closed.

Any ideas?

Thanks all!

On my 85 if both doors are not completely closed, they will not lock at all. If I try to lock them the solenoids lock, but unlock right back open in one operation.

Normally, like yours... when 1 door is not closed completely the locks go down and pop up but this is not the issue I’m having , Now my locks don’t move at all...there is no sound of moving. the scenarios and issues I’m having are very different. Thanks

I never understood the CLS. Our cars are the size of a VW bug inside. Just reach over and lock the passenger door. A short reach at that.

Check the CLS male-female connection on the passenger side footwell near the shifter console. Unclip & check the leads. Spray with contact cleaner then re-attach. Sometimes there is a loose connection there. I used tie clips to keep them nice & tight.

If that doesn't work, then it's probably the power lock actuators in the doors.

Sort of. For the 911 if we return to the car as a couple, my wife can get in as soon as I unlock the door.

On my daily driver, 1986 El Camino is has manual locks. She has to wait as I get in, and then reach over to unlock the door. Not a big deal in nice weather but it sucks if it is real cold and windy.

To the OP, it sound like you are not getting power to the system. Start by checking the fuses and the grounds.
