Not only the expense, but Porsche also recalled some center lock sets. And that gawd awful giant torque wrench thing.

A lot of guys with newer gt cars actually convert them to 5 lug wheels.
Center locks are a huge pain in the ass and offer 0 benefits for your SC

A good way to install them might be on a roofrack.
But I see you have a convertible, so, maybe not ideal.

They look cool and it is something very few other SCs will have, but so what.

Certainly is is possible. It is also possible to put a 997 Twin Turbo engine in your car, and almost as practical. But hey, it is your car, and your money. Do whatever makes you happy to it. It is just a car.

will the ginormous torque applied to the nut twist the chassis of a cab?

Using the system like the 964 cup and later cars use could be interesting at least on the rear.
You'll have get pretty creative on the front system though.
On the 400 ft pounds of torque, how many time a day do you whiners change your wheels?

Not sure what the reasoning is, but it isn't a great idea unless you have the tools to do it.

The factory rarely used centerlocks on a spindle setup. I think the applications are limited to the RSR, 934, and 968 TRS. It's a pretty goofy setup. They switched to a live bearing on the 934.5 and 935, and of course, later cars like the 964 and 993.

With centerlock adapters you're adding extra loads to the already weak cast aluminum hub design.

As for the centerlocks on modern GT street cars, no, those aren't good. They never were a motorsport application, just marketing garbage. The thread direction is even the same on both sides.

That said, the motorsport 996 and 997 centerlocks (not on streetcars) are beginning to fail now. They have complex spring loaded keys to prevent the nut from flying off. Because of the complexity and tolerances, the entire assembly must be completely disassembled and inspected fairly regularly. Lesser maintenance and the parts bind up.

The older style motorsport ones that have a pin to prevent the nut from backing off probably require the least maintenance. But since it takes a while to remove and install the pin properly, they don't allow quick wheel changes.

Thanks everyone my car is rarely driven and Im not afraid to cut on the suspension to get what I want. I have built race cars and street cars. Actually this car was built from a 82 narrow sc with my daughter 15 years ago with my then 15 year old daughter she is interested again and it’s bringing us closer she is in the automotive industry and has keys and on the title. We live 2 k miles away from each and decided to get this one finished ( we stopped working on it when she went to college) and start a new possibly rs long hood or something similar. Thanks for all your input. Kevin

center locks

This is an 85 body. Rebel Racing suspension and center lock hubs. Actually hope to have the suspension installed before the new year. Need to make measurements for my wheels. Bob
