Any tips for removing rear center reflective strip

I understand that the reflective "Porsche" strip is held in by 2 rows of 5 clips and that the reflective strip can be pried off with a screwdriver. Any special tips for this? Mine has some dirt on the inside and I want to remove it for cleaning. Just don't feel like breaking it if I attempt to remove it the wrong way. Thanks in advance for any pointers!

Tried to fix a loose one on my bosses 911.... only one fixing was left !!! DID NOT COME Loose with screwdriver.... broke off !! If I remember correctly it has a screw or nut at the rear side / so 10 of them... Donīt know how they come out.As the one that was left broke off. Glued it back.... the reflector thing I mean. Donīt use force , I think it has screws or bolts.I am not sure , though.

That part is NLA. You break it you're screwed. Leave it alone, esp as it's the earlier black written one. If you can see irregularities in the red or black, it's there to stay; it means the painting is gone there.

What George said - don't remove it unless you absolutely HAVE to. On my '75 it was held on by about 4 little nuts (they might have been plastic) which were quite tough to get at. There should have been 6 nuts, but some of mine were broken already from POs.

Once I got it off (I was getting the car painted), I realised it was, as George says, just a general degredation in the reflective coating on the inside. Doesn't look like it can be fixed. Mine will go back on, as is, probably using the same bodgy double sided tape method as the PO used at the end where the plastic studs/nuts are broken

Good advice George & Cam. I was really splitting hairs by contemplating removing mine for cleaning. Now I'll just leave it alone and go drink a beer instead!

Thanks for saving me a headache!

Blue Sky,

I did indeed commit the ultimate act of treason and sold my RS. I parted with it mainly because my Euro Carrera is so much nicer and I'm looking for another RS. Fortunately my RS went to a real cool enthusiast in the Northwest, so she's in good hands. I must confess however, that sometimes late at night I wonder if I'm crazy for selling her!

I too had my car painted and after the rear bumper and valence were removed, I too discovered the difficulty in reaching the fasteners from behind. So the rear reflector remained in place and was masked off. Plastic polish does a nice job in making it look like new. Not much you can do if the inside has deteriorated short of finding a NOS replacement somewhere.

When it comes time you really have to take it off. Best to wait while you have the engine out. It's pretty easy to get at then.
I put mine back on with 10 internal spring washers. Reamed then out a bit so they'd fit. I found some close to the correct size at NAPA. Just slid them over the posts and sucked them tight.

I just couldn't handle ( an anal deal ) the double stick tape.
Mine is one of the NLA black ones. I didn't want it coming off.

I can't either!!!! But the little plastic "studs" have been broken off, so I sort of have no choice. If anyone has any idea, let me know...

If the posts are gone your in trouble.
All of them ? You wouldn't need more 4 at the corners.

You don't want to put a hole in it. It will leak, then turn to **** after a while.

Good Luck ............I've no ideas.

Thanks Cary.

It is missing two on one end (and also one in the middle) - I think there might be a total of 8, not 6 like I said before. It is the two at the end which cause problems.
