I lost several gauges when I gave them to someone locally to refurbish. Haunted him for over a year. After too many calls I caught up with him at his house. He offered me a credit. I wasn't about to give him anything else

who? well, the answer lies within. more of less ......
I mean share the name of the shop. I sent my gauges to Seattle Speedometer. They sent them back with the one case loose against the body, so I returned it on my dime. They sent it back with (I kid you not) a mosquito trapped behind the glass. So I sent it back again, on my dime. The last time the glass came back scratched on the edge, so I sent it back again, on my dime.

I sometimes fixate on things and in retrospect I should have cut my losses and gone with another shop after the first mistake. The biggest thing that got to me is the guy never apologized or offered to compensate me for the $100 plus I spent shipping the same gauge back and forth to his shop.

yup. i hear you. exactly.
i have sent things to California a few times - paid slightly more. was worth it, in retrospect.
i'm disappointed, but not gonna lose any sleep over it.
buyers beware.
