Sugar Scoops to H4’s???
I’m contemplating “upgrading” from sugar scoops to the euro h4’s.
Firstly this is NOT about lighting. I already have the Hella H4 update in my sugar scoops and it is sufficient. I rarely drive the car at night. This is about aesthetics. So I’m not interested in $ 1,700 LED’s etc. What do you guys think. Are euro lights a better look? Sometimes I do just like the look of the sugar scoops. But the euros just seem more fitting. (Painted trims.). Thoughts? ![]()

If you prefer the look of the euro ones, change them. It is reversible if you want originality. For me the Euro ones look much better, especially from the 3/4 view

Just made this upgrade recently but from sealed beam and Yes I personally think the euro's look better. Would like to see a side view before I commented on the trim rings.

personally prefer the looks of euro h4s too -- be sure to read up on how to successfully install -- need to get the right rubber rings, etc. Otherwise, you risk running over your freshly installed lights

I guess I'll stick my neck out and offer the dissenting opinion here - I like sugar scoops. I like the "softer" lines they offer, and I think they follow the lines of the fender better. The skinny trim ring and the sharp top edge of the lens on the Euro look like an afterthought. Not to mention the oft seen big gap between the trim ring and the top of the lens. I know I'm odd man out, but I really do like the aesthetic of the sugar scoop better.

I have a 68 hotrod. I’m now leaning towards sugar scoops. Kind of an outcast, depressing look. But for an outlaw it makes sense.

But weren't sugar scoops a US-only anomaly (with ROW all having h4s)? What about h5s (which look near-identical to H4s and supplanted sugar scoops on US cars)?

I am also a dissenter. The scoops look fine and are original to my car. Scoops are how I remember 911s (and 912s) from when I was a kid.

Yes, they were a US DOT anomaly, not a period anomaly. Plenty of long hoods were originally delivered with the Euro style rings and lenses. And plenty of short hoods (US) were delivered with sugar scoops.

anything else than the classic Euro H4s was an adaptation to some countries spec.
regarding "originality" only in the US you'll find sugar scoops. so it's just OK to change them. and it is more esthetic as well. do it!
