1973.5 CIS injected orphan motor.
Is there a recourse for owners of Porsches who don't have the original engines in their cars? The reason I ask is that I have a 1973.5 911T engine that I would like to go to it's number's matching state. This engine came out of a Yellow 911 coupe that went to PA in the late 1990s or early 2000s.
I am looking for such a recourse. Thanks Deems |

Ping the PCA region in the area. Classified ad in their newsletter, etc. Then look for other arrive and drive sort of groups and see if they have an online presence / forum. Also check the regional forums on this board.
Nice gesture. I hope it works out. That's an unusual engine.

Also check on the Early 911S Registry BBS (http://www.early911sregistry.org/forums/forum.php). They may be able to help you as well.

It depends on what you are trying to do. If you want to reunite the engine you have with its original car, then a reverse search can be done on the engine # to find the original VIN. If you are trying to find the original engine for your car and do not know the original serial, then the information can be found, and the search can commence. If you are desiring to modify the serial on the case, then we cannot help. On the first two options I can help. Just email me.

Send DJ the engine serial number by email like he suggested.

Interesting. I have a 1973.5 911T coupe that I swapped the engine out of for a 3.0 SC engine in about 1993 or 94. I lived in the DC area at that time. The engine had 110Kmi on it.
There was a used Porsche parts guy in College Park MD, named Bob Kean. Then he moved to Silver Spring MD, around 2000, then sold all his inventory and moved to China in early or mid-2000’s. He sold my engine to someone else in about late 1993 or 1994. So, it’s possible that’s my old engine. Unfortunately, I don’t know what the serial number on the engine was. A couple years ago, when I paid for a COA for my car, it was a couple months after Porsche stopped providing the engine and transmission numbers, and instead required you to take the car to a few specified dealers who would do a complete inspection and then send that info to Porsche, who would then provide the full details. Too much trouble, so I never did that. However, if you tracked the engine to the car VIN, my VIN last 3 digits are 211. Let me know if that’s it. Thanks. I will also email DJ. Ha! that's funny, I knew Bob Kean as well. And yes, he had some parts, and cars, and knew his stuff very well.. funny to hear the mention. Paul-

Yeah Bob was a character too. I remember one of his girlfriends. He called her the Tasmanian Devil! |

Ahh no worries, Pete, I too have been crazy/busy no time for personal emails or fun car stuff.. bummer!
Haha! That's funny, quite the character he was.. I met him way back when he was in Adelphi. When he moved to College Park.. more space, things got out of control, cars and parts all over the place as 911s were relatively cheap then. And yes, I remember the Tasmanian Devil.. amongst others!

Good to see a 73.5 motor trying to find it's way home! Post the engine serial number up here, Pelican is good about archiving. Glad to see the last longhood/first fuel injection bookend cars getting some love!!
