Just purchased a solid state DME from Forcus 9....
So whatya think? Keep the spare analog one that replaced the failed one or offer it for a date with someone's sister in GA?

Did you get a 944 that isn't listed in your signature? Looked through their site and it only lists 2 944 DMEs.

Well I was led to believe it works for my 964 motor. If'n it don't wellllll, I'll be irked. I usually can still read and comprehend when I'm pissed off and drinking but there be always the first time.
God I hope this ain't ain't another "Coboy" incident.

I had one in the 968 and one in the 944S, for the last couple of years.
So far, happy.

Well Wayne, you're right.
Wrong pins. Flat pins on the F/9 relay versus round uns for the one in my ride. Part number was off as well. .00 versus .01

Back to your original question, while carrying a spare DME relay has served the faithful for decades, I'd say you don't need to with the solid state unit. In fact, save the space and weight, carry a DME jumper harness in the unlikely scenario your F9 unit fails.
I've had two 3.2s with the pump prime units. Love 'em.

I was thinking "DAMN that is a lot of work to re-engineer the whole DME!" The thread on Rennlist makes it seem like it is possible that it is a ground up new box. Can't understand why they wouldn't do the work to make a 911 version. That would sell better.

If the pins are equivalent on the 944 unit I would be inclined to just build short jumpers from blades to bullet connectors and use it.

3.6 964 transplant in my '82SC. I had forgot that when I did the transplant back in 1992 I wired a 3.2 (round pin) DME into the 964 wiring harness under the seat. I'm sure yours is the same. The original 964 DME wiring goes up to the 964 relay console under the frunk and uses the flat pin relay. I have had the Carrera 3.2 Solid State relay (with prime function) in my car for 8-9 year and has been flawless. Love the prime function as it's comforting to hear the pump run for three seconds before you crank the motor.

I have had the fuel pump prime version for a couple of years. I carry the spare because it is small, and weighs only ounces. Once before on a club drive one of the other 3.2 Carrera was having running issues. I let him borrow my used relay and he got home, and ordered the solid state once. He gave back the old one.

Well the one I received doesn't fit my set up. I've emailed the support team and I'll see what happens.
