I think ditching the targa and customizing the coupe is a great approach. FYI the SCART works for a 3.2 with SSI! You have great taste and this will be a great journey! |

It is your car, and your money. Do to it what you want. It is just a car. As to how far can you go, that is only up to your budget.
I have had my 911 for 26 years and it is precisely the car I want. All the little projects are done to make it comfortable, and fun to drive. Living in a hot part of the country and driving to even hotter areas makes air conditioning imperative for me. I drive it in the COLD winter as well. My car has seen -2 degrees and a heat index of 135 and it kept me comfortable at both temperatures. There are many threads on getting the 911 striped down to the lightest possible weight. Most likely you best bet is spend money on driving schools and learn to drive what you have. Once you are getting the max out of what the car can return, then concentrate on all new suspension, engine overhaul, transmission rebuild, and weight reduction. The more you customize any car, the harder it will be to find a buyer that wants that car.

This is an important point to consider. I think whatever you do to your car must be done with a sense of taste. A lot of people go hell bent on "upgrades" and the latest styles. I'm trying to avoid that. I see a lot of things people do to their cars that I wouldn't do, but I try not to comment. Hell, there are probably people who think what I did with my green Targa was dumb.

The only thing I have to add (that I haven't seen already) is don't be afraid to try stuff.
Cut metal can be welded. Parts can be replaced. It's just time and money. Don't let fear dictate what you do/don't try.

Nice rims! I bought a pair of 16 x 7 & 8s last year...they really make a difference...I’m sure yours will look sweet!

The common sense/short view
I think the biggest help would be going to Porsche events and talking to other enthusiasts, track events/DEs and hopefully drive/ride with as many similar cars as you can to focus your desired end product - a cruiser/show car ------track deamon, then you can avoid expensive backtracking.
If you are young and bucks up, you can try a lot of stuff. I'm a 72 year old phat phugger and want to get the car track ready and driveable, ASAP, i've played with cars for 50+ years, so this it: My dad's repainted, (sepia) 74 coupe, recently rebuilt stock engine AND CMS rebuilt 915 with GT LSD, Wevo, Stomsky and Rennshifter, 21/27 t bars with carrera sways, new elephant HD rubber, bilstein HDs/Sports, KEP 6 pound alum clutch on a Fenalne 6+ pound wheel rebuilt pedal cluster, Champaign leather covers on sport seats, Al's PMO ITBs, MS 2, EDIS, SSI;s with M&K 2-2 Sport muff, AC delete, Carrera fender cooler Air ducted to PMB M calipers, new everything else for brakes, wheel bearings, ss lines, MC Dunlop Direzzionales on 6 or 7 inch rims. Been 10 years in the making, i gotta get this on the road/track before my expiration date arrives... chris |

I'm not young. At least on the outside. Inside, I'm 25 with a bit more money and a little more wisdom. This is my 15th Porsche. RSR wheels went on today with new Michelin rubber. I have these tires on my Targa and I like them. My plan is moving along....

I took half a turn out of the front torsion bars, maybe I need to do another half?
I know I'll need an alignment, but I'm rebuilding the whole suspension system soon. I should just leave it alone for now. ![]()

I've never been a big fan of the Carrera two bar wheel so I put a three spoke SC wheel on with factory spacer.
