How to Refurbish Heater Controls?

The plastic parts of my between the seats heater control levers have faded to a pale pink. I seem to remember reading somewhere that they can be removed and placed in boiling water for a minute or so, and they will return to their original bright red.

I haven't been able to find anything on this via a search, but I think I've read it somewhere...

Is this correct? Or is there some better, alternative method to do this?

i redyed mine about 15 years ago , was pretty straight forward. need a steady hand and a fine brush for the lettering though. I have a Targa so it gets lots of UV. could need doing again but not bad for 15 years.

The dye works great! But instead of painting those letters... Get a white crayon and smoosh the wax into the voids. Old dungeons and dragons dice trick, works and looks perfect. Stays looking good too!

I think our host sells them. I found them brittle and hard to remove, prone to break. If they've turned whiteish, they've been baked, and mine were 30+ y/o at the time.

Just tried this with absolutely zero effect after 45 minutes. I used a cheap powdered dye from Walmart, maybe should have used RIT but they didn't have any red. Perhaps I'll give it another try down the road.
