9" Fuchs on SC flared '69 Question
It appears I am going to have to replace the 15" wheels on my car (DON'T EVER CHROME FUCHS).
I am probably going to go down the 16" route and am currently entertaining the idea of 9" rears (off a turbo). Does anyone know if these will fit under my SC width arches or will I have to roll the lips or increase camber to get them to fit? Also what are the negatives of such large rims on what is an original 69 supension set up eg. bearings/cv's etc...? Cheers

Can't speak for the second part, but there are definitely guys on the BBS with 16x9s. It is pretty tight though...

I have lowered 82SC and 9x16 Turbo rims in the rear with 245/45/16 tires, no rubbing at all, my fenders are not rolled

John,
I've got 9" Fuchs and 245/45-16 Yoko AVS plus on my '69 w/RS rear fenders (equiv. to your SC flares). No problem. As long as the offsets are not radical (they're not), there shouldn't be any issues with wheel bearing loads. What's going in the front? Front clearance is a little trickier with wider wheels/tires. They will fit. Last month's excellence had an early wheel base car with 9's mounted and no fender rolling IIRC.
Bottom line, SC/Carrera flares will accept 9 inch wheels with minimal difficulty.

"Fronts are to be 7" any problems there..?"
If 16x7 and 205/50-16, it should be okay unless the vehicle height is low. Each car is slightly different. In addition. on some cars, the clearance gets tight between the tire and the front part of the wheel well (around 9 o'clock) - tight enough that a front end bra holddown strap might rub. With 225/50-16, might have to trim the wheel well lip and watch ride height. With 944 offset 16x7, or 16x8, less rubbing issues with 225's. 16x7s and 16x9s should look nice. Aftermarket wheels can provide more width and diameter. Sherwood |

Thanks Sherwood. Could you post a picture of your car again at some time?
Cheers

There's some on the my rennlist website. The latest version is on the right.
But there's plenty of better examples of other guys' cars. Last edited by 911pcars; 05-05-2003 at 12:32 AM.. |

I posted something about this a while ago...with some pics of my turbo 7" wheel on the front of my '72. The clearance was tight. I'm not sure it will fit. See the thread below:

i have 18x10s and 18x8's on a 73 with rs flares with no problems. i wouldnt think that 9's and 7's would be a issue. everyone seems to be scared with this and if you do your homework you will find that you can get a much larger wheel with the correct offset or spacers with no lip rolling.
