First 911 Project Help
Just got my first 911 a few weeks ago that I found locally. After wanting one of these for most of my life the time has arrived and I have enjoyed tearing into this one. This a 1986 3.2 which I thought that I would never be able to afford. This one has been sitting outside for many years. As I am going though it I found this hanging wire under the car that I cannot figure out what it is or where it goes? Sort of goes up behind the transmission case.
Yes the car runs but not very good. Thanks for the help Brian ![]() ![]() ![]() |

your exhaust doesn't look like this but the rusty things above the axles control cabin heat

That looks like the reverse light connector , two pins and a rubber boot?

What sort of problems are you finding with engine? Any history as to why it was parked?
Best of luck as the Porsche adventure begins!

That is how i got mine! Get a bentley book and start collecting parts for deferred maintenance. Plugs, wires, cap ,rotor valve cover gaskets oil filters fuel filter brakes you will be busy for a few months. Once you get it running good then drive it like you stole it. Congratulations!!

Hi Brian,
Welcome to the the brotherhood :-) A non running car could have a "few" difficulties. I'd recommend you do a PPI (Post Purchase inspection), If you cannot find a knowledgeable local brother to help you give the car a thorough look over, it might be "wise" to flatbed it to a trusted local mechanic to thoroughly asses the cars condition and needs. He/She should be able to help you prioritize the cars needs and give you cost estimates for getting it into shape. This forum has a huge amount of very knowledgeable owners willing to discuss your concerns and offer advice. It has been a huge help to me. Welcome , chris |

thanks for sending this pic of your engine. Very helpful. The person I bought this from had taken some things apart like the sway bars, etc. so this may have just got disconnected.

Thanks for the welcome, the person bought the car to flip I think and started working on it and then it just sat. The fuel lines were replaced which is a hard job I have heard but they never got the front sway bar back on and lost many of the parts. I looked through pics of cars on here and BAT and diagrams and got all back together. The shifter was also taken apart to put a short shift kit in it and so I put all of the back together and ordered new bushings, etc. I have done all of the maintenance stuff like oil, fuel filter, fuel sending unit which fixed the gas gauge, O2 sensor, plugs, cap and rotor. It is still missing feels like not running on all 6 cylinders so I am thinking about taking the fuel injectors out and having them cleaned and checked out. The car sat for a long time so this could be the issue. Also, when I bought the car I was told it needed a new computer unit so that is all new/redone as well.

It is a yellow wire with a pin in the cap that feeds up behind the transmission into a bigger wiring harness that goes through body behind the engine. Just thought of something. This car was in a minor wreck and got a new engine lid. This happened back in 2003 when these cars were not worth that much so the repair was done very poorly. This car did have a rear wiper I found out and almost every option for that year. They did not bother putting the wiper back on or motor, etc when they fixed it. This plug could be for the wiper motor?
